I just topped and have a question ?

Ok I just topped my plant above the second node I want to know can I cut off the big fan leaves on the first and second node just so the new main stems will get more juice ? The fan leaves are pretty screwed up as it is I would like to just take em off. My avatar pic shows some of the damage to the big fan leaves

ive cut my larger fan leaves off, plant doesnt seem too upset about it, i also topped it but i just did that yesterday and i was only taking 2 nodes off. so i dont know how its going to respond.

your going for 4 tops i assume?
 
the plants not gonna die from it but any verteran will tell you not to cut fan leaves......................most the energy get produced in the big fan leaves .......its like cutting your feet off to run faster

Goog analogy. It may look rough but plant is still using it. It will fall of on its own when ready.
 
lol its a good habit i remember my first grow i started trimming the fan leaves got carried away and had a naked plant lol
 
maybe i'm reading it wrong but isn't there a rule you should only top once there are 4+ nodes? I'm new and never topped before just reiterating what i've read heh. But be sure to keep us informed!! I think i'll be topping for the first time in a couple weeks ;)
