I'm gonna guess your lights are too far away and your plants stretched too far before the stem was strong enough to maintain itself. Next time lower your lights (if using CFL, you're pretty noob i'm guessing so that's probably what you're using.) Keep CFL's literally inches away, as close as possible without having heat.
