i need help with toping

i have three plants in an aerograden and im using flora series nutes instead of what came with the aerogarden. So far they have all been doing well what i need help with is knowing if i can cut the tops off below the top nodes, my trouble is that the plants are not able to get that tall so i wanted to top them in this spot so i get two main stems the plants only have 3 sets of nodes if i cut the top one would it hurt the plants since ther so small. Im also new to the site and im not too sure how it all works so if there are better ways or places to ask questions help is much appreciated.
