Ideas on how to make a drip system?

Im guerilla growing outdoors, and I won't be able to check on my plants very often, only about once or twice a week. I'm planting them in a very sunny place near the top of a South facing mountain (it will get lots of sun). I've looked up videos on youtube about using bottles with holes in the caps and putting them in the ground, but I'm not sure if thats reliable or if it will last very long. I don't want to over or under water my plants either. Please help!! Also.. I live in Southern Cali, and we get about 12 hours of sunlight right now.. will my plants grow a little then start flowering, or will the seedlings grow slower? Im still a newbie and need a few suggestions here and there.

There is something of an alternative, but you will have to research it. A former Prof. at NC State invented something that if I remember right was a water absorbent polymer. In it's packaged form it looks a bit like uncooked rice. You mix it in soil and when watered, or rained on, it absorbs water and swells to several or so it's dry size. Plant roots will attach to it, but for reasons that he explained to me and I cannot remember, the roots will not use it like moist soil and instead it will be kept like a reserve and only used when the soil is dry.

Since he invented it a handful or so different companies have made virtually the same thing, and in some cases something different but that works the same way.

You might want to try Google and use keywords like ...... water absorbing polymer for plants ... or something similar or maybe just check at nursery supply sites or stores. With some luck you might find something that will work for you and cut out the need to create a crude drip irrigation system and need to haul water to refill it now and then.

dig deep, condition the soil well, and mulch deeply............it'll rain. maybe some broken clay pots in bottom of hole to serve as a moisture reservoir.

i'd be afraid a tank, one of worthwhile capacity, would be spotted.

I was thinking about that, but I don't want it to be very visible from the sky.. It gave me the idea to maybe drill a hole big enough the rubber drip tube and fill that up with water and let it use the pressure to release water..

Thanks!! I didn't even think of that, I've heard of it but it didn't come to my mind, ill definitely do some research on it.. do you know if they can retain water multiple times? Or is it a one time use?

i live in socal too...it aint raining qnd with how hot its been you need to keep em watered...the bottle idea works especially if you water rhem before you leave very well...its just like the water globe thing you see on tv...it will worl for like 2 days
