I'm considering a 12 site ebb and flow purchase. Which one and why?

hey sencha, you should add a 3rd choice to the poll. the new sentinel mef-1 i think it is. digital controller and it's the only one of the ebb & grow systems that has the drain holes on the bottom of the grow buckets. i like that the cotroller doesn't have to sit on the bucket as well. you can mount it on the wall and it also has overflow and flood sensors. plus, we all know sentinel makes great products. it's a little more pricey and you have to buy a reservoir seperate.

of the two, i would go titan.
cap products have given me nothing but trouble.

checked out the sentinal, and would personally still stick to the titan.

for sure out of those two though i would say the titan. the cap ones are just shit really. you always hear about them floading or breaking. too many problems with them. plus they are black which attracts heat to the tubing, control bucket, and grow buckets. all the standing water heats up and creates problems in the system.

always a good idea to raise the grow sites 1-2" above the control bucket. help to drain the sites and the tubing a lot better. standing water in those things makes for all kinds of slime issues sometimes. keeping your res cool helps a lot too.

Raising the titan isn't needed. Will not change the draining. I'll do a write of my thought on both later. I'll add the plus and negs.

Sorry but no. Only tilting up a 1/4 inch on 1 side helps. At a wedding right now. I will post what I've found about both and why I stayed with the one I did. Plus the things I need to fix on it. Just to busy to do it at this time.

i'm talking about draining the tubing that feeds the grow sites; not the grow site buckets themselves. the cap ones are for shit and need to be tilted toward the drain but the titan buckets actually drain pretty well.

Well I only have exsperiance with the old CAP. There was quite a few problem with that. But been told most have been fixed. First was the drainage. There was slot of water in the bottom of the bucket. Causing more chance of root rot. Drain hose are only 1/2inch so it didn't fill or drain as fast as I would like. Another was the grommets. Alot of time a simple movement of the buckets caused leaks. And with the 55 drum in the room the heat in the tank would get warm. Another thing I didn't like was the inner bucket. Simple holes drill in the bottom of a bucket. But after a few tweaks like raising the buckets. Enlarging the holes for 3/4 inch hose and heating the area and flattening the grommet area out. Moving the drum out of the room. And adding another flood to move the water more. The system work very well.

Now for the Titan. The system was cheeper. Had better net pots. All 5 side had net. Larger sites for the 12. 4 gallons. System drained better but left about 3/8 inch of water. Not bad but wish it was less. Now adding a 1/4inch stick under the side without the drain helped. But like scooby said the water would still be in the hose. Haven't seen a problem yet. But there is a problem with the buckets. There thin and blue. So roots aren't in dark. And the heat inside can get hot fast. H2o2 every 4 weeks helps keep rot down but I've gotten it a few times. And the pump in the c bucket would kick on and off many times do to the drain back. And sometimes the the pump would run dry at this time and not pump out the water past the float switch. Leaving the pump running till the next flood. That can be fixed with a 1way valve on the return line on the bucket.
Both system are good after some work. I desided to stay with Titan. Mainly for the 360 net pot and the already 3/4 inch lines.
