A legend and icon of punk rock has died. According to Variety and New York Rocker Magazine publisher Andy Schwartz, Tommy Ramone of the Ramones has passed away. The cause of death was related to treatment to cancer of the bile duct.

Tommy Ramone, born Thomas Erdelyi, formed a band with John Cummings (who would become Johnny Ramone) called The Tangerine Puppets when they were both teenagers. After that band dissolved, Cummings formed a new band which would become the Ramones. Tommy was originally supposed to be the manager, but ended up drumming on the band's first three albums before deciding to leave the band as a musician. However, Tommy would continue to serve as a producer and songwriter for the band at various points in their career. Before his passing, Tommy was the last surviving member of the original Ramones.

When I first heard their self titled, it fucked me up for life. There were a few albums I didn't care for, but I would consider myself a pretty big fan. Loved everything up till right after Road To Ruin. Marky's side project is pretty decent, too.

i couldn't probably even name 5 songs they sing tbh, idk, i'm not saying they suck obviously, just for some reason they were a band i never really got into too much for one reason or another... which is kind of odd, you know all of the shit i do like.. :D

Yea, I love your taste in tuneage. I definately leaned into hardcore, aggro shit growing up - e13, DK, Ill Repute, Germs, Bad Brains, Flag DOA, MDC, subhumanz, Jerrys Kids, Circle Jerks, and the like. Wasnt until a while later I started getting into the heavier melodic stuff. Old Descendants, Dag Nasty, Husker Du, Rich Kids on LSD, early Bad Religion. It was more fun to play that stuff. Idk Ramones were sort of in their own category.

I just remembered this story Rollin's does about them. He nails it.

i love rollins, his stand up is great, or spoken word, w/e you want to call it..
umm, i saw him years ago, and it was about 2 weeks after his boy joe cole was murdered in front of him.. it was an amazing, super emotional show.. super cool..
first time i met rollins, i was thinking to myself, who's this military looking d bag, then he turned around and i'm all "hank" lol...

lol Hank. "And, he was just sittin' there, all pissed, drinking water and lifting weights... "
lol, nah, he was working the crowd, selling 2.13.61 books and signing the occasional autograph..
then i saw him trying to chill out in the crowd at a beatie boys show at rutgers that was pretty cool as well..

Fuck, there are people out there who don't like the Ramones? You fuckers on crack? Their first four albums have to be some of the best around. Not a bad song there.

What a shame.

I was born to late to ever see any of the good bands play live.

The musicians might die, but their music will live on. That's some solace at least.

Blitzkrieg Bop was one of the first songs I learned to play on bass. Shame I don't remember how to play it anymore.
