In planning stage for 1st grow

Well folks a friend of mine has maybe a 7'x7' closet area that he has used as a grow area in the past. I have renewed his interest so we will be starting from scratch an I am doing preliminary research. This site is terrific, thank you!!

He has 2 3900 lumen CFL's and I am ready to buy the rest. We are planning on 4 plants with similar grow times: Maui Waui, Haze 1, GrapeGod, and Jack the Ripper to grow from seed in dirt. I have been looking at 10-12 (5-6 of each 2700K and 6500K) 250 watt CFL's with Sun System reflector shields. I need to figure out structures to hang them on both above and to the sides. I can line the room with reflective material, but not sure it's worth it with CFL's. Any comments on that?

We'll do more research on soils and nutrients since there is a major league hydro store in the area :)
We have fans and a humidifier if needed.
Any additional advice is appreciated.

i think that using cfl for vegetive growth is awesome but having to change bulbs for flowering i thing that you will get more for your money if you put a 400w hps lamp. if you buy a nice reflector that can handle a hps and just do the wiring for the 400w transformer. I dont know if its good advice but thats what i would be doing if i had to grow and flower in the same room.

We have a 400w reflector with both MH and HPS bulbs. We don't want the heat in that small of an area. In one year we'd like to move the operation to his garage and use the "big" lights with a generator along with all the CFL's we'll have. Looking for some comments from people who use CFL throughout the entire period. My feeling is that the second stage will take a bit longer with CFL, but we'll see. I'll document everything with pix from the beginning to the end.

Thanks for everyone's advice.

did ya see how I hang mine from binder clips on 2 chains running across my closet? It works pretty good for me cuz I like adjusting my lights often and it allows me to give some side lighting when they go into flowering cuz I can just raise and lower them however I want where ever I want :)
And it lets me keep all my cords and wires up above everything on a shelf ;)

I have pulleys and kevlar rope so I think I'm good there. I just haven't seen many posts about using the bigger 200w and 250w CFL with redlectors. Also I'm not sure reflective material on the walls will help since the throw on CFL is short and the room is big, kinda.
This whole thing to me relates to the 5th Element:
1. Fire....lighting
2. Water...and sweat equity
3.Earth.....soil and nutes
4. Wind....circulation
5. Human...watching all the variables and keeping it all in balance

BTW my seeds have not shown up from Canada...they say delivery is guaranteed...we'll see. That would be my Jack the Ripper, Chernobyl, and Malawi Gold. I've got GrapeGod, and a couple others coming, too. My friend has the MW and Haze 1 already. I may be a newbie at growing, but have a lot of experience in other areas...my sig says I'm no kid LOL. Just got a new Extreme Q vape....all the votes aren't in on that purchase either. If all goes well he'll do some renovation on his garage and we will rock-n-roll with a generator and all the trimmings :)
Thanks for the suggestions and please keep 'em coming.

OK still planning. Today the electrician came over to my friend's house and gave him an estimate on a large electrical upgrade. So far it looks very favorable. The lame-ass Canadian distributor has still not delivered and has until Saturday to deliver. On Saturday I will request another shipment be sent with a 3 day delivery guarantee that I will be glad to pay for the quick delivery. If he doesn't comply it'll go into dispute.

Now on a positive note Attitude Seed Bank came through like champs. They sent the shipment out on 3 April and it arrived today. YEAH!! What arrived was all fem:
5 Purple Trainwreck
5 GrapeGod
1 CH9 Cluster...free
1 CH9 Jack...free
1 CH9 Blue Lemon Thai...free
1 CH9 Critical Mass 33...free
1 EVA TNT Kush...free
1 EVA Jamaican Dream...free
1. EVA Monster...free
All seeds were well-packed and looked great as far as color. I can't wait to start the real 1st grow thread. I thought they did pretty good with the freebies.

damn....I think I'm gonna order from the Tude next time :) I sure hope you get your missing shipment and don't have to go through all that hassle.

I wish I had a 250w CFL....that would be pretty bad ass. How many plants were you planning on starting at first? It's good you got all fem seeds....no worries there.
Sweet having an electrician friend to help you wire shit and make sure everything will be on the up and up. Did you say you are going to have an entire room to work with? Lucky Ducky :)

Catt...my order finally showed up from the Canadian distributor and it was wrong and short...kinda like one of my ex-wives LOL. Instead of Jack the Ripper they sent Space Dawg and the freebie Malawi Gold was a no show. They did send the Chernobyl. They said the MG will go out Monday...may see it by the end of the month.
So it looks like our first grow will be 6 plants. I'm seriously considering going LED and a linear track instead of CFL. No final decision yet. The closet is about 7X7 with a 9' ceiling. Climate control and ventilation is yet to be determined.
The shipment from Attitude came in a T-shirt I also ordered...guaranteed shipping by doing that....I wonder if that also includes receiving LOL.
