Instead of an intake and exhaust fan, can I just stick a mini fan in there?

I can't take a fan out of a PC or anything like that (I have no idea how to rewire something).

A mini fan in there is simple enough. It would move the air around too. So could I just stick one of those in there, and leave some small holes for air to go in and out?

If it makes a difference, I will be growing 1 plant in a 1 by 1.5 by 3 foot tall box. I will have two 23 watt CFLs (I might go with 3 23 watts). The box will be in a closet, a closet that is never opened. It is pretty stuffy in there.

if the room you are growing in has recirculating AC, and you can provide access of that fresh air to your plants ( box near a vent?) you can avoid having to set up intake/extake ducts. also, set up a DIY CO2 generator, that way your environment doesnt deplete of precious carbon dioxide for your plants..with those two variables, you will be better off

I believe he said he's gonna keep them in a *stuffy*closet that never gets opened in a box.

op-see, the thing is your plants need fresh air, not re-circulated stuff like your saying. your temps will most likely be a problem for you as well. if you dont have proper airflow. .

i have my plants in a closet with a little fan from walmart in there, i leave the door open as often as i can while the lights are on, this refreshes the air and keeps the temps inside cooler, sometimes with the door shut and lights on it get hella hot so i always find a way to leave it cracked with the fan on keeping the fresh air coming in

Well the box isn't airtight (in fact, it's got a pretty skimpy cover just a peice of cardboard). There's a lot of openings for air to come in and out.

So won't air just flow in by itself, since there's openings? And then wouldn't the fan blow that air out, and new air comes in, etc.?

sounds like your plants are going to suffer in your setup. go to walmart, buy their 6 dollar minifan, next cut a hole in your box at the top, mount mini fan to hole pointing out of your box, now cut an equal size hole in the bottom of your box for a passive air intake. you now have some ventilation. even 2-3 cfls will bring temps up to 100 plus. you need air exchange for a successful garden, this is one the cheaper ways you can achieve this. try putting your lights in the box with just a mini fan blowing around in there, it will get to hot for mj.

So all I have to do is get this mini fan, cut out a hole, screw it in, plug it in, and then cut out another hole with no fan in it? Sounds simple enough. I'll go to Ace Hardware as soon as I can, can't find a Walmart near me.
