I'm not a fan of A/G's nutes for what we're doing. You can use them but they're designed for six to seven herb and vegetable plants. I can't help but think that our M/J has different nutrient requirements. If you're close to a hydroponics store you might want to investigate Technaflora's recipe for success. They're easy to use liquid nutes and I've had excellent results with them. There are other brands to investigate as well.
Yes, I've been doing that. I also noticed that they weren't dissolving very easily, so I ground the last one with a mortar and pestle before dissolving it in the water that I was going to add. I'm also suspicious that my tap water has a lot of chlorine in it, so I've just boiled a gallon ready for my next batch. That will be the first batch with a large tab rather than a small tab, so hopefully that will give my plants a boost. Failing that, I'll go down the route of checking and correcting pH before I abandon the Aerogarden tabs altogether. I'm considering one-part nutrients for my next grow, like Ionic or Vitalink. Is that a good idea, or should I go straight to a two-part? I'm trying not to run before I can walk.
That's good info. I'll finish this grow before I decide to persevere with Aerogarden nutrients, but I'll make sure that if I buy a Master Gardener kit in future it contains the liquid nutrients.
I just received my pH pen and checked the pH in my reservoir. It was 6.7, and my tap water also has high pH. If I had used distilled water I would probably have been OK, but I think the pH would still have been a little high. I'm going to stick with tap water for now,but correct the nutrient solution pH down to 5.8. I'll see how the rest of the grow goes, and then decide whether to change to Canna Aqua for the next grow. It's a good learning exercise, and I'm also finding out whether I might be able to get reasonable results while keeping the operation as simple and cheap as possible. By the way, my local water company adds chlorine to the tap water, but not chloramine.
do they get wet inside the sealed plastic bag that the nutrients come in? Mine do that also, I havent gotten them wet yet they seem to be gaining moisture inside the sealed plastic.. weird! I have been using 1 large tab per week, and also tap water
and one of my plants has a bit of yellow on the edges... do you know if im adding too much or not enough? and i am definitely switching to distilled water after reading this thread!!! that could also be why the color is off :S
