Is it bad for cannabis roots to become intertwined?

As long as space is not an issue, it doesn't hurt the plants to tangle roots. It makes it hard to seperate them later on, but if your not planning on separating them then it wont matter at all.

I have a hydro unit, looks DIY, got it from a friend. For free. It has maybe 2-3 gallons for a res.
It has six 6" netted pots.

I've yet to hook it up. I want to get better air stones and air pumps. Is 6 plants too many for 2 gallons?

It would depend on your lights and such, but most likely six is too many. Late in flower one plant can easily drink a gallon a day by itself. It sounds like this unit is made for temporary veg.

I have a choice of lights. CFLs, LEDs, and HPS. The HPS is smaller, just 250 watt, I don't have enough ventilation for it yet, temps are 100F+,
I wont put my plants through that. I know my fatass wouldn't like 103F..... I won't do that to my mj plants.

The unit looks like a knock off of an Emily's Garden hydro system. Same set up, same size parts. It was free, so I can't complain too much. If
it wont work, I can buy other stuff.

It will work for 2 or 3 plants. I prefer to use 6 gallon mini trashcans, but I have grown 2-3 plants in a 3 gallon bucket with no real problems before. Later in bud I have to be diligent about keeping the buckets full.

I might just put it in the attic. A Rubbermaid system with better parts wont cost me but a few dollars.
It would be just for a practice grow, it is my first time growing inside, I just got my mmj card, and want
to go for my legal limit eventually, once know what I'm doing....
