Is it better to have 5-6 tops that get super fat or 12-15 that get average fat?

Topping while in veg, and creating more tops will not necessarily affect quality, unless you don't supply enough nutes for the plant to support the extra growth.

If it were me i would top. i trim trees for a living and i found that if i do my plants like i do the trees i trim/top/prune. i get more growth than i can keep up with. i always top my main to have about 6 to 8 tops. i also top any branches that can be topped. i found it gives you so much more yeild. also if you top make sure you give your ladies time to recover before you throw them into flower.

OK, here's a pic of mine that I just finished, with some LST and only one topping.
I ended up getting 2.71 oz. dried and cured, with only 305w of CFL's the second half of flowering.

I was just experimenting with this one man, so I'm sure you can do something cool as well!
I was experimenting, knowing it was bagseed I hadn't paid anything to order for, so I was playing with it, but you get the idea.......
Play around with cheap or free stuff, and find something you like, then push it with a high yield seed you order.
