is it better to mother a plant from seed or a clone of that plant?

i have a 1 month old plant that i want to preserve....

she is almost a foot tall and i was planning on doing a SCROG, my screen is 12" above the pot so shes almost ready to start getting trained.

the thing is i didnt want to have to wait for this one to grow and then start clones because my medicine stock is running quite LOW!

but is it better on the long run to let the seed plant grow up naturally and keep her as a mother, or could i make one of her clones a mother? ive never cloned before and im also scared if i fuck up the clones!

would the clones be just as vigorous as the mother?

is cloning hard? i kinda have to decide now because this bitch is growing real FAST!

thanks in advance....

cloning is easy enough but the clones tend to have odd node spaceing and normally dont grow as fast at the beginning, personally id keep the seed plants as mother and just pop clones of her as and when you require.

Cloning is not something you pick up right away and have immediate success. Don't put yourself in a position where you "have" to do
something or learn something in an artificial amount of time. Leads to extra pressure and that leads to mistakes and doomed clones.

Use your present plant as a clone mother by keeping her in veg mode at either 18/6 or 20/4. Sounds like you have space concerns so
I would keep mom in a one or 1 and 1/2 gallon pot for her duration. That will help keep her small but large enough to give all the clones
you can use. You want your cuttings to be large enough to have a hole in the middle of the stem. For me that is the dividing line on wether
a clone is big enough to thrive. It usually takes new moms 5 or 6 weeks to grow large enough to give up clones/cuttings with a hole in the
stem. Soon as you can take 4-6 clones from her and get them in a heated dome.Make sure you keep water in the dome as you want 100%
humidity for the clones. You need to see condensation on the inside of your dome every time you check!!! A week after taking the clones you
can set the mom to flower at 12/12. Every spot on the mom where you cut off a clone will develop into 2 bud sites instead of one. Bonus!
After a week in the dome you can start to look for small white roots on your clones.

Good luck, BigSteve.

Both, really.

I've found that mothers get a bit too gnarly after about a year and the new ones must come from clones (I've been running the same strain going on 4 years now).

My suggestion is to take some clones to learn and trim that fast growing mom down a bit. If the clones take (keep at least 2 for moms. 2=1 and 1=none in case of mishap), you have you moms and go on with the scrog. If they don't take, the seed mother will recover enough to take more clones in a couple 3 weeks.

Get the future secured before you worry about where your stash is.
