Is my pot too big???

So I'm using a 52l or 13 us gal pots. I use this size coz its how I've seen repetitive pounds pulled outta 52ls. Just a nice size for the girls... I wanna put 4 in my 4x4 tent. Is it better to downsize or just give them as much room as they want? Plus rep as usual
 
As long as get 4 in tent then go for it. Bigger pots mainly beneficial if giving long veg. That's small prt on how to get big yield. What light and set up you running?
 
no such thing as too big a pot. but it can slow down growth as plants will focus on root growth b4 foliage.

but its up to you i like more plants in small pots(SOG) vs less plants in big pots(scrog), it all come down to, how ofent do want to harvest and how much do you want to harvest at a time. build your room around a sytem that suits your lifestyle, im home alot so i can do SOG because it is time consuming while on the other hand i could full automate for a fairly cheap price but i like to be in my grow room. i say mix and match grow some big plants grow some small ones play around find what works for you.
 
Big pots r good for root growth.if u r veg them for a month r longer.but like he said there is no such thing as to big of a pot.becase root growth is very important.the bigger the roots the more food can b delivered to the buds.a happy and health root zone means a happy and health plant
 
yes i agree, i use a 50 litre hempy style 1 plant scrog, my medium is 100% perlite, and by the end of around 90 days, my pot is chockas with roots, and weighs an absolute heap!!

if the roots have more room, they don't get restricted as much, and more growth will happen in the long run

yea very true. bigger pots offer lots of advantages, the increased soil not only give you more space for roots, but any nutrient or pH changes are buffered by the extra soil. in small pots, nutrient (deficiencies and toxicity) levels jump around, and its harder to gauge what exactly your plant wants. in big pots, the changes between peaks and dips isnt as pronounced.

i vary my grow around, i flower in a 3x6 closet, and i either have 4 small pots in there while the 2 big pots are vegging hard, or vice versa. right now, i have the 2 big (24x24x24in) pots in there, and using LST, and topping, and everything, and even tho the canopy is only about 1 foot higher then the soil, it covers the entire area. now, after my final tie down before the long haul to harvesting, its all about upward growth, and hopefully that will be just buds. these 2 plants have been cut so many times that im counting around 11 tops on one, and 7 on the other. otherwise, the 4 small pots would have about 3 tops each...

the yield will be MUCH higher on these 2 big plants then 4 small ones.

100% perlite? got pics of this? its considered hydro then isnt it? im using about 50% perlite, 50% soil.

thats something else, big pots means a much higher percentage of perlite/vermiculite is great.
 
4x 52l pots in a 4x4 tent is not sounding very nice to me.

don't waste time vegging plants if you grow in a tent!, you will end up with a lot of fluffy airy buds, or even worse pM bud rot.

i am an experienced tent grower, i grow in coco and i can get 1gram per watt of buds that are all of equal size and quality.
 
Great Pot knowledge Pot-Heads, keep bringing great informative information - I truly did enjoy this post as I was wondering about pot sizes. I was told to start small and transplant which I think I will stick to until I experiment, which I should do for the heck of it.

100% perlite really? this is a perfect example of rep going to the wrong people
 
I have 3 - 5 &1/2 foot plants still in veg in 1 gallon pots that are going outside in a few weeks getting t/ped into 30 gallon camo growbags.
I was trying to restrict the growth rate by doing a 16on/8off light schedule and getting them nice and rootbound. They still grew like vines.

I have a C-13 Haze from DNA and also a Rocklock and the C-13 doesn't need to be potted up usually...I mean a ridiculously large plant will thrive in a tiny pot...but then the Rocklock gets 3 weeks of veg and end in a 7 gallon...that is crazy...it grows super roots apparently, and really doesn't like to get cramped up in the pot either....so I repot that one, but not the other.

With photos they like to get repotted from time to time, whereas Autoflowers would rather have one pot home than to be transplanted...so with my photos I start them in solo cups...for my autos they go straight into a 3 or 5 gallon pot of wet soil or coco, and then I put the end of a plastic bottle down in the dirt around where I planted my seed...once there is a plant under my bottledome I take it off and there ya go...it is easy to overwater seedlings in large pots...and also to keep newly planted seeds moist without inadvertently moving them about during watering, and that is what the bottledome is for...the rest of the soil starts to dry, but the small circle around the seed/seedling stays moist...this way I don't have to water til the pot is light, and the seedlings don't have to dry out detrimentally in the process...I finish every plant in at least a 3 gallon...sometimes 5 or 7...just depends on the plant and what it seems to need.

what do you yield per plant... I will chose to use 52ls coz Ive seen pound per plant weight, Not myself but seen that sort of yield from pots that big or bigger...
