Is there a such thing as too much water during germination

I know it is possible to drown seeds, but my friend just throws them in a cup of water and eventually they will begin to emerge from the seed. I've seen it and it is pretty cool. They basically live under water for a little bit and then come to the surface with the roots in the water now.

Hi PAUL,

GOOD POINT.. :)

yes I have seen this technique.... if the seeds are left in the water for to long, they die... It is a small window for error..

i keep mine in water just until they crack, some get to a little point but that's it. very small window, fungus sets. i simply do this because i always forgot and let me paper towel dry out. this is just my method.

seeds have a time release membrane to ensure survivaly of that plant. some seeds can be in the ground for a month before they sprout. but as Penguin said and i also agree, the white and pale green ones rarely sprout

whenn it comes to water you realy dont want to keep them in the germinating faze to long just till they crack open and mayb have alil root but otherwise they just mold and decompose :-P

the best way to pop a seed is to put 1 or 2 drops of hydogenperoxide in half a glass of water and drop ur bean in there. usually if it's good it will pop overnight.

when it comes to the white and brown seeds you dnt realy want to grow them anyways bc they just are very weak plants and do not develope right when they are germed and about 85% of them turn into males so do not lean towards brown and white seeds (PALE)

Just use the paper towel technique. With that, you are almost sure to either have ones that with germinate, or the ones that won't.
