It's Too Easy to Get a Medical License In This Great State

I am a REAL patient for medical marijuana, I have a REAL problem & not just headaches or something. Now i'm not dissing anybody who has a license that is in real need for this great medicine, but come on people can go to just about any doctor to get a card, when I went he gave me some Bullshit about my disorder like "thats it" I was pissed because I saw people in front of me with no doc recs or any documents proving anything, but I had all of them. I was a little worried he wasn't going to give me the card, but then I looked down to see that my card & everything was in the folder with my name on it, that the front desk guy gave the doctor when he saw me. Since I have a real medical reason IDK that he pre-made it, but that just goes to show me that EVERY patient in that room got one, and he gave me (a person with real problems) some crap...

I myself currently live in a state where MMJ hasn't been legalized (yet?!), but that's because doctors and pharmaceutics can make more off Marinol. That being said, how can you blame anyone who wants to grow and smoke their own herb without having to worry about the servants of the state (police) nabbin em off the street for consuming plant matter in the same way tobacco smokers do. You complain that it's too easy as if the proposition itself was put into effect just to validate others with your condition. Let others do as they like and worry about yourself.

i'm sorry the doctor gave you crap. but i think your ire is somewhat misdirected.

i'm in canada, and let me start by saying my hubby is a HC MMJ certified designated grower so we're eyebrow-deep in the medi-user camp. my best friend is having the exact problem you are (she has a B1 condition, which is generally considered a shoe-in as long as you get a signature), only she still hasn't even *found* a doctor willing to sign for her yet (we live in a different health authority so i can't help her). consider yourself lucky.
that said, we're from a time when you couldn't get the medicine legally, 'legit' problem or not, and i think it's precisely this mediuser vs. rec-user debate that damages the 'legalisation' efforts of all.

you do realise it's the government -- not all the nice folks who want to grow The Green Lady and hope not to end up in jail for doing so -- using this "divide and conquer" tactic on us, right? because your op just shows you dancing to their tune, no offense intended.

from a prohibitionist viewpoint that cannabis should ONLY be used as prescribed medicine (aka it's still a dangerous substance that needs to be regulated and restricted), sure, maybe it looks like there are lots of loopholes that allow non-medi-users to become legally certified.
but from the other side of the coin that believes that it should just be legal, and anybody should be allowed to grow it, and as much as s/he wants of it, as freely as vintners grow grapes, the current "licensing" system is still bullshit prohibitionism dictated to us by our respective governments.

hate on your doctor instead. now that you have your card, slap him with a discrimination suit if you feel strongly enough about it. maybe that'll help other patients not go through what you did.

The OP makes an excellent point, whether you like it or not. Other states that are coming onboard with MMJ are using California as a model of what NOT to do. A lady on the Dr Oz show regarding MMJ made a good point, it's because of California's haphazard oversight, that many states are overly restrictive, preventing patients in true need of access to the medicine from getting it in a timely fashion, example, New Jersey and Rhode Island.

So while some of you may have that "fuck you, I got mine" attitude, you are really hurting access to MMJ for many others.... California MMJ access is a joke. They should have passed 219 and been done with it.

... this is a good point, but i still don't see how that's the fault of the individual applicant, whether they have a 'legit' medical issue or not....
(and as far as "fuck you, i got mine," no, i usually end up eating the costs of supplying my unlicensed best friend with her meds for free or dirtcheap, so it works out for the both of us but it still doesn't make it *legal*....)

Who is blaming the patient? I don't see a single post blaming a patient here... I was referencing the rather rude "mind your own business" posts up above

Was that my post? Am I insulting patients? that quote isn't insulting patients either, it is a strike at fakers that want to smoke legal pot for no reason but to get high. Why did you quote me and make a reference to blaming patients? If you feel the need to become defensive, so be it, but the point is, the op made an excellent point, and now some upset California patients don't like it... Everyone in the USA knows that California MMJ is a joke, that anyone can get a card, and dispensaries are like 7-11's.... The fact of the matter is, it is hurting people with a legitimate need to access the medicine, whether you like that fact or not, it is what it is.

I want marijuana available to everyone for whatever purpose, but for now, society isn't ready for that. In the meantime, I'd like to see patients have readily available access.... Because of California's past with MMJ, many states are adopting extreme access laws.... that was the point of the original post. Nowhere did the poster attack legitimate patients.

booohoooo. Why should people get arrested for possessing cannabis if they don't have to? I think they should hand of cards for a headache. It harms no one. The fact that there are so many people with cards helps people like you. Due to the amount of people with cards medical cannabis services are more accessible for everyone, including you.

In the state of California maybe.... Not in Rhode Island or New Jersey. Those states specifically cited the abuse in California and as a result, they have laws allowing MMJ and nowhere to buy it. they are too busy trying to find out how NOT to be like California. I agree with your sentiment that anyone should have access, but until that day comes, voters in most states are not going to vote yes if tehy know in advance people with a skin rash or a loose tooth can get a card.....

my post in which i quoted you, i quoted you to let you know i was responding to that post.
my post in which i quote the OP is in response to your "Who's blaming the patient?" question, since i figured you would probably 'get' that i was responding to your last post. not defensive at all, not attacking.
note in post 7 i use the word "applicant", not "patient".
this was deliberate. with 7bil of us now, ambitions high, and dwinding resources, i believe that any system that benefits the general public, you can pretty much assume it's going to be abused *somehow. and in this case i don't think it's fair to hate the abuser. <- i cannot stress enough that this is simply my *opinion.
i mean, i know for a fact that there are OC's out there with armies of "patients" with disabilities who don't even use cannabis but are happy enough to get a bi-weekly paycheque from perpetual comm grows (who do you think ends up in special ed. together?). why hate on joeshmogro "doesn't want to go to jail" instead? i think they are the far less evil of the 2.
i mean, while we're all sitting pretty (albeit because we have a suffering in our life in the form of a medical condition), lives are still being -fucking destroyed- because of Our Green Lady. just because we 'fit' under that comfortable umbrella doesn't make prohibition for recreational users less important an issue. i believe that our energies are better focussed hating the *system* that allows that, rather than each other.
i personally find the words "REAL" and "legitimate" divisive in the context of cannabis usage, because personally i think 'stress-relief' is a medicinal usage we are all guilty of at some point, medi and rec user alike (and unless you have ptsd or a chemical dependency you're trying to kick, *good luck* getting a ticket for 'stress-relief'). but again, that's just my opinion.

Medical cannabis laws are progressing nicely. As far as medical goes, we are moving in the right direction. What is right for California might not be right for New Jersey. I'm ok with that. That's why we have states.

I'm done with this discussion, it always ends the same way, people in Cali pissed and getting defensive about how it is in their state... It is because of California that patients in Rhode island and New Jersey CANNOT access medicine, even though they have a script.... Simply because legislatures are taking forever in getting everything funded and set up. they keep citing abuses in California... Does that mean it's your fault? Nope.... You didn't regulate or oversee the program. No one is blaming the guy with a cold that got a card... they are blaming a system that allows it to happen under the guise that compassionate use is going on. What is happening in California does get noticed and is talked about in other states. In fact, we had a nasty little lady here as attorney general that pretty much said MMJ would come to our state over her dead body, because we were not going to become a California.

Is she ill informed or misguided? Hell yes, but it's that perception that California has allowed to flourish with poor oversight and lack of regulation and enforcement. So to those patients with terminal illnesses, or are fighting cancer and can't keep a meal down because of the chemo, are you going to tell them thats why we have states? I hope that eventually we can all smoke and grow in the open. However voters in the states yet to pass MMJ may hear or read or view reports about the rampant abuse in Cali and vote no in their state because of it. At that point, it isn't just a California issue.

to judge peoples pain level, is whats going on here. who is some one to say weather some one needs a licence or not.
what if some one has a licence and they dont smoke. they grow for some one thats very sick, cuz that happenes. its for saftey. they should gives licences for took ackes, or any thing that doesnt require u to get addicted to any tipe of pills.

you should be complaining how easy it is to get pharmacudical medicine to...doctor's give out prescriptions for anything as long as you tell them the symptoms...there's nothin right with anything...also pot should be legal anyways, alcohol is.

We should have a test. One person drink alcohol all day, and the other smoke marijuana all day, and lets see who dies.
Also they should make all the oil companies and all the pharmacudical companies not for profit, all this while they are peddling asprin on television.
