I've not used the filter on my carbon filter?

Just not bothered with it, my set up I feel like already weakens the fan strength, I've just not bothered putting the white cushion on the outside layer, can this cause problems or anything?

I dont think it makes that much of a difference fan strength wise. Its not goong to cut back on the fans ability to work. I like to make sure the prefilter is soaked good in mild warm soapy water for an hour. Then wash it by hand, wring out, and air dry. Make sure its placed on canister right and secured by bands.

Nah, just a bunch of gunk in your carbon, effectively reducing its surface area and effectiveness
