Jaring too early? What to do?

How do you know if you are jarring at the right time? I jarred a lot of the small pop corn stuff in some jars and some big nugs in other jars... The small ones smell amazing when I open the up to burp them (been doing about 6 hours a day)....

The jars with the big nugs smell a little funny... not like the heavy chronic smell the others have... What should I do??? Please help! Thanks!!!!

Whack em in a brown bag mate, in a cool place. Does wonders. also some strains take ages to cure properly in the jar. Cut it, trim it, brown bag it, smoke it 5 days later (if RH is at 50%, a day for every 10%RH) & jar the rest to cure and smoke at your leisure

Brown paper bags for a few days would work great for this. If the outsides of the buds are crispy but the stem is moist still, put back in the jar to "sweat" it.

They hung one week and then were on a drying rack a week... They seem dry, just don't smell as good as I want... If I keep burping for 6 hours will the smell get better? Thanks!!!

If they are too dry mate, just leave them closed up in the jar, get one of those mini RH digital meters and pop that in with the weed aswell, you can just look at the RH % to see if its getting wetter, overall opinion is that curing starts between 55% & 65& anything lower then 55% and she could be too dry, dont sweat it tho bro if she is too dry, forget all those 'pop an orange peel into it', just pop another freshly cut bud into it later on and it will re-hydrate all the other buds, use the RH meter to be bang on tho, The higher the RH is , the wetter etc..

burping is usually a period of time less than 6 hours. 15 minutes is good. However if you dried them hanging for 2 weeks out in the open I would think they would be way to dry. Unless you live in the rain forests.

Thanks for the replies really help! Ok, so the room was kept at 55%... Except for 1 day it was only 40%.. The "Week" of hanging ad "week of the dry rack is a little exaderaed.. I should say 5-7 days each, so 10-14 days of total drying.... don't think they are too dry hopefully...

Do the grow stores usually hve the mini RH meters????

Check out Boveda 62 packs they keep the jar at 62% rh +/- 2%. I have heard they can bring the flavor back into an over dry bud!

i wouldnt know mate, i order my RH meters from the internet, ebay.

You can use mechanical hygrometers to monitor at 62%, more or less, and the smell test. I've found that as bud cures it's smell characteristics change. Some get better, some worse, but you know when it's going bad. Rot has it's own distinct smell and it ain't good.

Loosely pack your big buds into the jar and put the lid on but don't screw it down leave it loose. In the early stages of jarring, take a smell test often. Take them out if they smell a little funky at this stage and either lay them out in the open for a bit or repack them loosely back into the jars. You're allowing the moisture to escape, but of course you don't want them to dry out. Plus you can inspect individual buds to find which ones are drying/curing slower than the others. As time goes on you can reduce the number of smell tests and let them begin aging.

Of course, the paper bag method works too, and has the advantage that you end up with a nice smelling paper bag.

I usually put buds into jars a tad early. It's better that then putting them in too late. You can always take them out and brown bag em. Then put than back in the jars. Getting moisture back into buds is difficult if not impossible.
