just getting started- expertise needed

I'm going to use ebb/flow with 5 or 6 seperate containers. How large of pots do I need. I see come people growing in 16oz cups and others in 5 gal buckets. Whats min. I need to grow nice plants without problems? How high should liquid come up in each container. To the top of grow media or just below? I've got clay pellets, perlite , vermiculite and pete moss. How should I layer pots? Thanks in advance for all help.
