Just got a ballast and I need help...

I just got a north star lighting HID ballast that also came with two 250w mercury bulbs.

On the side it says its 460w, 277v, 1.9amps, and M/H.

I think that its a 400w Metal halide lamp, which would only be good for vegging right?

I would like to test to see if it works, can i do it with the 250 mercury bulbs?

Also, i cant put an HPS bulb in here right?

yhea i think so. one of the two fires diff. i think u can put hps in mh but not mh into hps

So i could put in a hortilux super 400w hps in this ballast?

i was always told dont put things where they are not ment to go
you could lose something
