Just starting would like some tips.

whatsup. this is my first post and first attempt at trying to grow. ive been reading up on the forum about all kinds of stuff and i want to post what im going to grow in and see if anyone has tried the same and could lend me some advice.
here is the what im going to grow in.

its 1.2ft deep 3ft long and 1.5ft wide

i really only have 2 questions..

what kind of lights should i use that i could get somewhere from like a wallmart or home depot or something like that.

also do i need to have some kind of ventilation beacause im going to need to keep it closed.

im guessing i will need to transplant it outside when it gets to big so im also wondering if i should just start it outside and keep it outside..

would appreciate any tips

My first advice would be stand it on its end so it opens like a closet. Even if you tie them down, plants grow up, not sideways.

You can get CFLs (compact fluorescents) at Sprawlmart or the Despot.

I have read of people growing start to finish in a PC tower, though it boggles my mind. So if you put your mind to I'm sure you can finish in that box.

Yes, you will need some kind of ventilation, though if you are going to keep it really small, opening the box a couple of time a day might be enough.

i am really only trying to get 2 lamps would 2 40 watt cfl's be fine? i will only be growing max of 4 plants

No, i dont use cfls but Ive read enough on this site to know thats not gonna be enough. Maybe for at first, but if youre gonna flower with them your gonna need a lot more. I think Ive read 6-8 per plant for flowering.

I wouldn't put HID in that box without doing something serious for cooling and ventilation.

I only use CFLs for side lighting so I don't know. 2x40w doesn't seem like much light to me, but you work with what you've got sometimes.

Check out some of those PC tower grow threads and see what they use(d).

I would start with four plants and hope for one vigorous female.

ok what is that? :( also does anyone recommend a certain kind of soil/plant food i can buy from lowes or walmart? would like to get a plant food that is good for all stages of the plant

ok i got my lights 8 23 wat cfl's and a 250 wat heat lamp from walmart.. i stood for like 20 mins in the light section trying to figure out how this would work.. i could only find single light sockets.. how do i setup the timer to control more than just one light? it only has one socket to insert i am really drawing a blank on this one

could try that.. i dont know much about that stuff.. im going over to radio shack tommorrow to see what they got if not im going to look for a better time i can plug my jack strip into

Walmart has 2-way socket adapters.

Why did you get a heat lamp? I think that would work for french fries, but probably not much help for growing. In fact, if you're still planning on growing in that box, heat will be your enemy. A heat lamp is essentially a very inefficient light. The heat it gives off represents wasted energy-- energy that isn't turned into light-- unless you are trying to keep something hot.
