just transplanted...root bound question

Hey guys,

I vaped a fat bowl of some haze then proceeded to do some work on my grow. The plants were in small pots (>1 gal). I got them out and into the new pots (3 gal) and I noticed that all around the original soil there are roots. The bottom had roots all bunched up (...guessing they were root bound)...and in my daze I managed to not really loosen the roots. I just put them in the new soil/filled the sides with soil and watered.

I know that was stupid, but do you think I should bother trying to take them out to open the roots again, or just let them be and see what happens. (I don't want to put them through much more trauma..but if I need to open the roots up its better sooner than later)

Regards

when your transplanting a root bound plant you don want to touch the roots at all just leave the roots alone the roots are going to grow with or without your help so just let them b and the roots will grow into the new soil

Thats good to hear, however pretty much everything I read in a quick google search said you should try to loosen them up a bit. I basically just took the root ball and stuck it in the new soil.

But man do I hope your right :weed::joint:

I have never messed with the roots once I took the root ball out of the pot I will sometimes squeeze the pot and break the dirt apart but hardlly ever I promise the plant will grow if the roots are root bound then that means they are looking for a place to go and you just gave them a new place so dont sweat it bro

Thats exactly how I transplant. Just put the root ball right into the new soil. Fill the new soil around the old root ball. thats about it. Nothing is easier. Your just asking for trouble if you break the dirt apart to try and loosen up the roots. Like jgrows4u said they'll be fine. just let it be.

Indeed. I can tell they are happy already in their new pots. I think I let them become too rootbound. They stopped vertical growth for about a week, and the leaves started to wither with some serious yellowing on the first set of perma-fans on some plants.

Now you'll see a growth spurt.

All good advice above.

Never breakup a root-ball, it will send the plant into shock and stunt growth.
