Keeping snips in the fridge for future use..

What temp would you say is the best for this? I have a mini fridge and wine cooler I can modify for this. I want to try this and the ziplock bag method. As long as it last around 12-14 weeks this would be pretty awesome. What temp would achieve this “stasis”?
I can't say what temp exactly, but I'd say below 50° should work? Aren't most standard refrigerators set around 40 or 50°?

When I'm growing out a larger number of plants to select keepers I often keep UNROOTED cuttings in the fridge until the end of harvest. It saves space and I can root the ones I want after the all important smoke test, discard the rest.

Basically I fill a solo cup 1/4 the way up with tap water (the chloro is good in this circumstance) and put the fresh snips in the cup and into the fridge they go. Change the water as often as you can and they will stay nice until ready for use.

The fridge light coming on and off doesn't seem to bother them as they seem to hibernate. I have yet to have any trigger flowering. This is the normal kitchen fridge getting opened on the reg.

I have kept snips up to 6 months, changing the water frequently is the key.

When coming out of the fridge it is best to warm them up as slowly as possible. Going into an aerocloner they seem to not miss a beat even if temps are low 70's. Soil you want to warm them slower.

Give it a try!
Nice!!! Been thinking of ways to save cuttings, thanks for the info

I think you're right. In winter crop growing of hardy salad greens in a greenhouse that seems to be what happens.

I'm curious why the dark in the fridge doesn't weird the weed clones out, but maybe the opening of the fridge door causes enough light they never get the continuous dark to flower?
Can’t flower if they don’t have roots that’s why. Roots make the flower hormone.

Then how do unrooted cuttings flower when I put them under 12/12 to tell which regular seed pops are females?
I don’t know I am not you. How do you do it?
12/12 in a glass of water? How many days? Do you get full flowers or just a pre flower?
I don’t see how your cutting ‘grows’ into flower mode without roots.
Sounds like b/s to me.

in cups of water yes, its not really uncommon for ppl popping seeds to do this with the tops after they top in veg, so they can cull the males.

First I have heard of unrooted clones going to flower.
A cutting is going to take atleast a week to realise the photoperiod has changed…by that stage it is probably starting to make roots in the glass of water??
I still don’t think this makes sense or is needed.
By the time plants are big enough to be cutting clones off they are not far away from showing sex anyway.
You could probably do the same by just going 12/12 for a week to get the males showing.

nope no roots, yeah it usually takes a couple weeks to determine the males from females.

The cuts don't get mushy from being in water thar long? I was going to order (4) Snips/Unrooted Cuttings that I was going to root myself and didn't know if they would survive in the mail a few days without the clone gel and rockwool cube. I usually cut my clones and put them into the gel and rockwool cubes immediately that's why I was asking.

Yes, no problem with a few days even a week and more is ok.

It's probably advantageous if you have success with cloning.
