layering soil types for a variety of pH buffer ?

Has anyone ever tried this and does it sound like a good idea ? e.g. have stratified layers of different types and pH of soil mixes, mayb 4 layers in a 3 gallon pot (roughly..im thinkin like a layer with each 7-10 cm) i might try this on my next grow to see how the plants like it :confused:

I would think you would be better off with your soil having a solid ph. You can vary ph during your water feed cycles. Knowing your soil ph will let you identify any problems with your plants. Try adding 1 table spoon per gallon of dirt of dolomite garden lime. This will give you a solid ph base . Do a slurry soil test at planting.

yeah ive got a pot of calcific lime comin. i was jus wonderin if u had layers of soil of pH's goin from 7 -6.3 for example then every feed they get they might extract something diffferent from it. who knows lol it sounds pretty technical but i might try it out in one of my pots next grow, jus for fun :)

yeah i got lime, but even mixing lime with soil is gonna keep ALL the soil at the same pH. i was jus wonderin if anyones tried using differnt layers of mix so that there plant has roots in soil of differnt pH. so when u feed the nutrients, the roots take up differnt amounts of each nutrient depending on which soil type the feed flows through - because as u prob know, differnt nutrients are absorbd more or less in differnt pH, even from 6.3 - 7. im gonna try this on my next grow anyways in one of my pots n see if the plant is healtheir, worse or the same as the others

i dont know if you ever tried it but the lime works. if your doing an organic soil, all you have to do is add 1 cup lime per cu ft and make sure your medium is rich in humus and thats it. im telling you what i know from experience that if you do as i suggested it, it works.
