leaf issue. can't figure out

two plants

1.5 months old

indoors 400w hps

soil and perlite mix

Used Thrive all purpose fert. 12-3-6 % only twice.

the big leaves are looking really bad. turning yellow and brown and getting crispy and curling up. also can see it just starting in the smaller leaves.

i thought it was magnesium deficiency so i gave them epsom salts but that did nothing. so i gave them a bit more about 2 weeks down the track.

i've checked all the FAQ's and can't figure it out...

please help

im no expert but I'd guess it's a ph problem, looks like a calcium/boron lockout(if i HAD to guess from that single pic). what type of "soil are you using? if you're running chemical fertilizers in soil keep a close eye on your ph, I recommend checking soil ph before adding (or not adding) any more nutes. ph balance some water flush some through your plant and check the ph of the runoff.

if you're using a basic "cheap" topsoil, usually that's designed more for flowers and "acid loving" plants and the ph can be quite acidic or unstable when adding nutes. I reccomend adding pulverized dolomite lime to the mix next time as a ph buffer.

I think you'll get a much more accurate diagnosis if you could show pictures of earlier/later stages of the problem, as well as give us a lil more info on the type of soil you're using.

Truth is, it's simply a pH lock out. When a lock out like this happens, you get multiple deficiencies that overlap, that's why it always looks so strange.

Check your soil and watering solution, both should be in the 6-7 range, ideally 6.5-6.8.

As a noobie I would say check your ph, most probs ive had have being from ph realted issues. If it only happened after you added those nutes then that would be it, maybe they where to high in nitrogen or something and have blocked out other nutes causing the problem. I would try and flush the soil and get them on straight ph'd water for a few days and see how they go, then give them a small dose of good nutes and work up. I dont know anything about topfert and what other goodies it contains besides NPK, like how is it on the sub nutes?

just got the soil checked out. it's at PH 6. so i better add some lime?

The best thing you can do is go to a pet store and buy pH Up... it's fo aquariums and doesn't harm roots.

done, done and done. thanks for the help everyone. one more question. should i chop off the dead, brown, wrinkled, crunchy leaves? or just LEAVE them on there??

It's never a good idea to chop off leaves. If they show any signs of problems (pests, burns, deficiencies), cutting them off will only forward the problem to other, healthy leaves.

i applied the lime and a couple of weeks on and things have gotten worse!!

is there some sort of greening solution i can put on it to stop the leaves from DYING!!??

i just don't want it to affect my buds

Did you flush all the nasties outta them b4 adding ph up? I'm getting back on the H2O2 bandwagon. Dirt soil sucks dude. Doesn't drain well, and takes forever to coax the water in. Use sunshine mix #4 or promix hp. i jsut switched to Sunshine#4 as it contains lime which seems to be great so far

also, when mine fried similar to this, with more yellowing tho, my ph was super lo as yours. I seem to have got back on track using more N and keeping PH in check. Keeping heat down and HPS further away (20" plus) as well seemed to help. Now I got fungus. hahaha. always something. Have fun and good luck!

Take off all the bad leaves the plant is stressing trying to repair them and budding at the same time then I would suggest flush some water thru and STOP!!! adding anything until things improve .then post again pics

that looks like mosaic to me, its common among tobacco plants,

nitrogen greens things up but I think you have thrown so much on this plant it need a new start so flush and leave for a week no chems!! then use a diluted half solution of veg fert and leave alone again might hit with sucanut or mollassas later on.

hack down and start up the butter ...that sux bro
