Led and heat problems.

Hi guys,

Usually people complain about the excessive heat, but I'm in the opposite situation: my grow tents are in an uninsulated part of the house, its like a conservatory but the temps are cold as outside. Im located in Europe, right now its like 5-10° C. I bought 2 small oil radiators, one big wich heats the veg tent, and a small one in the flower tent. The thing is those heaters are sucking watts like my ex was sucking the money out of my pockets, a real fucking disaster (sometimes I think I'd rather go with HID seeing the consumption, whats the use of leds if you need to spend more on heating than lighting).

Do you have any tips or advices to raise the heat for the smallest amount of watts? CFL's, heating cables, anything?

Perhaps you could seal the room, and vent it periodically? Then you could use the lights for your heat source and a fan to blow some warm air down off the lights... idk

Some T5's or CFL's will raise the temperature some.
A grow tent where you can control the environment more would also help.
I understand your predicament, but if this was summer time, I can guarantee you would not be complaining of LED's low temp.
You may want to consider splitting up your garden's lighting duties between HID and LED depending on the season.

mc130p: I was thinking to add 10 inch / 25 cm rockwool layer on top of my grow tents, maybe that would help? Cant put anything on the sides tho.

BadKarma: yeah, cant wait for summer (then it will be pests I guess), it will be far easier. Unfortunately I cant spend much on an HID ballast + bulbs + reflector right now, as for the T5 wich Id love to get but cant . Do you think some regular household CFL 23 W bulbs would be enough? Like 5 or 7 but no more than 10? Worth it? Or better to wait and get a HID? And would a 250w Hid be enough or better a 400? Its 4x4x7 growtent(s).

Look on ebay. You can get heat mats to put on the floor to raise the temperature of the tent, thats probably your best option, or you can get a 45w heating tube like I did (check out my grow- vipar 300w Herijuana and purple kush LED grow just below your own thread).
