im thinking of getting the 240 watt or 180 watt black star for a 3x3 area along with reptile light for some uv rays

Definitely go for the 240w over 180w. For that much space one will be fine for veg -- you may find it's not enough for that space in flower depending on how many plants you're running.

i may get a 400w or 250w hps instead.... these LEDs are expensive and i deff cant afford two 240w LEDs but i can afford a 400w hps and i think ill get the best results from that, thanks for the input

You'll get good results with both too... but I'm not sure a good 400w light is that much less than a 240w blackstar (maybe $100?). Do you have good ventilation because in that amount of space without it even a 400w is going to cause some real heat problems.
