Life Expectancy of Cannabis Plants

Perhaps these are stupid questions, but Im going to put it out there...I did look around on the web but didnt really find the answers I was looking for;

I know cannabis is an annual plant living normally only a season, I also know that (excluding auto-flowering strains) that a Cannabis plant will stay vegetative until the change in light and are photosensitive to the amount of hours of darkness, where it will then flower. I also sort of know of people (spoken on the net) that have kept plants in a vegetative state for quite a long time before allowing them to flower....

My question is; would their be any benefit by controlling light and ambient temperatures in keeping the plant in its vegetative stage for a long time, perhaps increasing the size of the plant, eventually getting a better yield? Also could you not keep a flowing plant for more than its life expectancy by slowly in intervals removing the flower and drying in stages, allowing enough stem and small branches to form? When flowering almost reached its level- by decreasing the amount of light and temperature (enough to keep it alive however giving it a cooling short winter-ish period, and then increasing the light and try to keep it alive by mimicking another Spring, Summer, Autumn and would their be any benefit; is it even possible?

Also can you clone from an auto-flowering plant even when its flowering...I planted a couple more seeds, the one Northern Lights auto-flower, had its fan leaves come with its seedling leaves, Im thinking its going to flower very young....

LOL....I know its alot of text, questions and Im not a professional grower, just now and again...but thanks in advance for any helpfull information...

I've seen plants vegged until they were over 10' tall. If you're in a medi state where you're limited on the *number* of plants, doing this can greatly increase your yield.

I live in Switzerland, we have some pros and cons, We are allowed to grow 4 plants, but only in natural light, we have hot summers and cold winters, last year, our summer was up to 35oC winter was -16oC, so that option for me in not really viable without bringing them in and keeping an artificial environment, however I was curious if anyone at all, had keep a plant for more than 2 seasons, in or out of flower.... or even reflowing? Thanks for the knowledge though, appreciate it :)

i've kept a mom for 3+ years, then replaced with a fresh cutting. carved a pipe from the trunk. :cool:
a plant can be kept in veg indefinitely indoors, pruning to near nothing every few months to keep it manageable.

As long as the female plant is kept under 24/0d daylight tubes and not permitted to go into pre-flower the plant will outlive a human.
The only pruning my moms get is snips and clean the leaves outta the hedge every once in a while. I consider a snip off a mother as being the same plant.
There is no practical benefit in cloning auto's.
