Light - burning smell?

I have a digital 600w hps that i just used for my last grow but I just got a new reflector from sunlight supply and when I plugged everything in the bulb was on for about 5min then started smelling like something was burning.. i smelled the ballast and it wasnt that it was comming from the reflector/bulb... any ideas what it could be?

any plastic film on the new reflector?

just read that while searching if others had the same problem . I hope thats it though, checking now.

you could try cleaning the bulb thoroughly (while it's completely cool that is) in case there is some residue or something on there. I would also try cleaning the reflector for the same reason (if you're certain there is no film anywhere that is)

I think it was dust on the bulb, I wiped it off and it stopped smelling.

It's because it was new. It's breaking in like a new car. It's fine.
