hi guys,

did the search for lightmovers but nope (well at least not in the first 20 of results)

so.

please tell me from your experience about light movers.

is it worth the hassle?
what i need to take care of?

i want to user 2 x 600 cooltube hps with light movers.
without them i would make a set up of 1,2 x 1,2 meters in hydroponic for each lamp, but now the lightmovers came into the picture, how much can i stretch the area (very much inspired by someones excellent sticky story here).

so far i found this:
http://www.htgsupply.com/viewproduct.asp?productID=47734

any good, experience?
please comment from experience.

it would be really super if someone could give the link to the topic whre they are described more extenzsive, as i expect them to be discussed before, but sorry i could not find.

I am using one, just started using it 9 days ago, so far i love it. It's a light rail 5 and i have two 400 watt lights on it

Most if not all of what we hear about light movers from manufacturers, web sites & salesmen is complete bullshit,if you follow the stuff manufacturers outline about their light movers you will end up with stretched plants & fluffy ass buds,i had to find that out the hard way.

Keep the grow area the same size that your lights would normally cover,

What light movers are good for is getting max light & max penetratration to all areas of the grow, yeild will increase due to more light to all areas, its a much better method over rotating the plants every day,i estimate that my yeilds went up between 10% & 20% with my light movers but that was after i figured out how to use them.

Dont push it & the light movers will help you pull a better yeild but the key is to keep the grow area to the same coverage area that you'd normally have without movers, maybe increase area just a bit but not too much.

Are you saying my setup sucks then? I wondered about the stretching factor.
Maybe it's to early to tell but i am on day 9 of flowering and so far i don't see any stretching. only time will tell.

Light movers are good for evening the coverage of a given area, not diluting it over a larger one. No more than 10% additional space may be used without noticeable dilution effects.

about the lightmovers, take a look, scroll a bit down, pretty soon you see the growroom with lightmovers,

https://www.rollitup.org/newbie-central/937-how-grow-marijuana.html

in this story from widowmaker i read this:

¨Another thing that should be addressed here is a light mover. I talked my friend into buying one for his crop and he yielded 3 times more than normal. ¨

and if you look at the pics of the growroom the grow-area is stretched quite a bit (i think). and in the pics the buds dont look that bad.

could it be that it makes most sense if you use 1000 W HPS? and could it be that certain strains are more suited for stretching the growarea then others?

heeh widowmaker, inform us if you read this, pls

What you have is good but then you have to purchase a robostick seperatley. Also you can find it cheaper i would give the site to u but i forget it. try shopwiki. light rails are the shit they give you more light where you need it. so basically it can double what you would have.

Yes 1000w hps are considerably more effective than lower wattage bulbs when used with a linear light mover. IME, which is 400w/lightrail3.5, extending more than 10% additional area was futile. I used the same combo years ago I use now but used more of them . With the additional intensity of 1000w bulbs, the lumens are still effective 3-6 feet from the bulb. This will definitely allow you to extend more than 10%, thank you for making me revisit the physics involved. Personaly, I like linear mover for long thin rectangles (closet) so the ends get dense, and prefer multiple stationary bulbs for larger square areas.

Somethings terriblly wrong with the statement that the dude trippled his yeild once he started running a mover.

Im surely not the best grower here or anywhere else but i can pull right around 2lbs from a single 1,000 watt hps,in order to tripple that yeild i'd need to pull 6lbs from a single 1,000 watt hps, thats damm near 3 grams per watt :o,that is never going to happen in any universe.

I'll be the first to say that widdow is a better grower than i am & he surely has his shit down pat but 6lbs out of a 1,000 watt light aint happening, if it is i hope he posts a tutorial on how to get 3 grams a watt & i'll be learning my ass off.

No, hold on there partner,i never say anybody's set up sucks & if i gave you that impression im truly sorry,i meant no offense.

I have not seen your set up in person or a picture, all i have to go on is the brief description you gave which i think was a pretty clear description.

What i was saying is this, when i got my first mover i tried to cover an extra 50% grow area, that instantly went south, the stretching got so bad after one week i seriously thought of tossing them all out & putting fresh clones in the room, see i fell for all the hype that salesmen talk about double grow space & then i double fuked up by not researching anything before slapping a grow together,i ended up with asparagus spear lookin plants.

I ended up setteling on an extra 10% grow space but my set up is a bit different than most peoples,i run a single 1,000 watt hps dead center of the room, then on each side i run a seperate 600 watt hps for side lighting,i picked a lengthened grow area based on what my dual 600 watt hps side lights will cover without stretching & applied it to all 3 lights,i could push the 1,000 watter a bit more but after the stretching episode i set it all up to be on the safe side.

I ended up getting about an extra 20% in overall yeild which is no small amount,if somebody can show me how to get a better yeild from reconfiguring My lights & movers im seriously all ears,i figure most of my increased yeild came from getting max lumens & max penetration to the entire grow area more than the increased length.

ya, if you have the money to re-invest or whatever... lightmovers sound good for increasing yield. but, like panhead said, i'd be surprised if yield increased more than 20 percent from a linear mover... and wouldn't want to increase the footprint by more than that either. Now, circular movers can possibly increase your percent more than that. For example, i once had a 1000w hps and a 400w mh on a circular (2 armed) rotational light mover in a 7' by 7' area. I yielded very well ... and am sure i would have gotten much less if those two lights had been stationary. Maybe i got at least 50% better with the mover.

These days, circular light movers cost an arm and a leg. With my current setup i could deffinitely see investing in a linear mover for each light... which wouldn't significantly increase power consumption - so a 20% boost in production would be awesome.
