I’m trying to decide in the next week whether to go for a 150 watt HPS or a 400 watt HPS. If I went with 150 I’d be using a sun systems setup, and If I go with 400 watts I’d build my own ballast from a kit. Here are my specs:
  • 2.5x2.5 grow room 5ft tall
  • Covered in 2mm mylar
  • 75% coir 25% perlite in ½ gallon then 3 gallon pot
  • General Hydroponics nutes
My question is what would my estimated yields be using the 150 or the 400 watt hps lamp, and would there be a worthwhile increase in yield if I included my 4 24 watt CFLs aswell?
Thanks!

400watt nothing less yeild depends on u and the plant but you increase your chance for a good yeild if u use bigger lights the more the better

You want something bigger than a 150. Definitely go the 400 route --- you won't regret it!!!!
More light generally equates to higher yield (all other factors being the same).

Do you have adequate ventilation in your space? HPS lamps put off a lot of heat -- this might be a concern in a grow area that small. HPS's are the absolute best, but for that size of space CFL's or even T5's might be a better option unless you have decent ventilation.

Good luck with the grow dude!!!
