Lighting advice for my closet

Switching to HPS but need advice.

My closet is 3ft x 3ft x 6ft

I would like to use a 400 watt hps and maybe some cfl's as suplementle lighting.

Is this space suitable for a 400w hps?

The closet door can and will remain open most all of the time with a fan or fans to help with ventilation and heat.

Will heat be a problem?

Also what light set up should I buy?

Theres a million things you can read about on this forum.. Thats why noone responded to you, because your kicking a dead horse. Please do some research like most of us have to do..

i think a 400 will be way too much heat for that grow space, considering mine is around that.

I use a 250watt hps.

I highly suggest you check out my grow.. it might give you a few ideas. Also look into purchasing a LED lighting system. No heat, and a 50 watt should give you around the same output as a 250watt hps. if you do that would maybe 4 cfl's you will have low heat and good lumen output for that space.


REMEMBER-- your not gonna be able to keep that closet door open during flowering man, you cant have light leaks on your plants during flowering

What a tosser. 1 post and he is giving shit. I have a similar sized closet and only use CFLs and it gets pretty hot just from them. I would avoid the HID and go with LEDs as suggested. Most will say they are rubbish but i have seen some pretty impressive results its just they are quite expensive. The doors open thing will need to be thought about again. First smell, your house with reek during flower and also again already said the light leaks. Not sure if a 250w HPS with a cool tube would work but it will depend on the outside temps. If you are from a cold place it will obviously help.

Checked out your 250w grow, looks real nice.

I have been working with CFL's for my past 2 attempts (DWC). Failed twice! not due to the lights but to overfeeding and res temps to high.

I dont mind vegging with the cfl's but I really want to go mh/hps . Just one light to deal with, and maybe a few positioned cfl's.

Im done trying to manage 10 or more cfl bulbs in a closet.

Also about keeping the door open for ventilation,

The grow closet is in a room which will have its main door closed and locked at all times. The room and closet will be pitch black during the 12/12 veg period. Still a problem?

And about the smell
Myself nor my roommate will have a problem with the smell, unless they produce an unpleasent odor. I thought flowering plants just smell like nice ass weed.
The house already reeks of weed smell.
Theres resin on the walls from all the smoke!

SO my new questions are

1.If I add an exhuast duct/ and or cooltube inside the closet, along with the closet door remaining open. Might I be able to keep reasonable temps in the grow space?

2. If I have an exhuast can I run it through the floor and have all the hot air exhaled under the house?

or run a duct out through the floor under the house all the way to the back of the house and exhaust there?

I'm using a 400w mh/hps in a secret jardin tent that is 3 x 3 x 6. I have a 6" 435cfm fan pulling the heat out of my air coolable reflector. Haven't needed to use my 4" fan with a carbon filter for smell/exhaust and I'm 9 weeks into flower, but the smell ain't bad.

Well is it ok to run exhaust under the house?

I have a very similiar closet (full of clothes aswell) and in bottom corner I have 2 plants and 400w hps hanging from the rail. You will generally ok with heat if you can have the door wide open all time near enough and window open a bit and a fan. I'm talking from current experience.
