Lighting: Ground Wire Question

Hey I just bought a vanity bar and an extension cord. I've stripped the extension cord into two sets of wires (unfortunately not labeled postive/negative, but grouped seperately).

The back of the vanity bard has the normal black/white positive/negative wires and then it has the ground wire (bare).

My question is: what do I do with the ground wire?

You should get a 3 wire extension cord so you can ground it. Or you can just leave it unconnected. It will still work but it will be safer if you connect the ground.

I started thinking the same thing. Went and bought one just now - got the lights hooked up and feel a lot safer. Thanks.

Now...the ground wire is bare (there's no protective cable around it)...is this safe? I've connected and electrical wire'd the positive and negative cables and then electrical wire'd them individually and then together. I've connected the ground wire and done the same with it but the line coming from the vanity doesn't have a rubber sheathe...is this okay?

It is normal for the ground wire to be bare. It should not normally carry any power. It is just there in case something goes wrong...
