Lighting HELP

Ok I have a 4W X 2.5D X 8H space and trying to pick a light. Picked up some clones got them planted about a week ago and was using 48 with 2 40 watt bulbs but went to a 400 watt MH yesterday. Problem the 400 is a industrial version like in a gym and it got my closet to around 85 to 88 degrees which I fell is to hot. Should I move to a 250 MH or would buying a system with a digital ballast cut the heat down. I would like to be in the mid 70's Note I ran a 6 inch fan on the ballast and a 16 inch fan to move the air flow

The best light for that area is a t-5 8-tube 4' fixture, mix the bulbs red and blue for the entire grow. You only talk about two legs of the stool. Air movement, and cooling the light which needs to be a closed system in that size of closet. You are forgetting the 'fresh' air system. You need to exhaust the hot 'stale' air with 'fresh' co2 laden air ever few minutes. In addition that is the wrong kind of hood for this application. VV

imo, keep your hid, get a cool tube and exhaust the heat.

Less initial cost now that he has the light, more in the long run, imo. Won't he have a hard time fitting a cool tube to this hood? I've never used one ?? VV

lol, well yeah, kinda would.... there's work to be done first

one would simply dismantle the flood light, either keeping the ballast in the case or making a remote raw ballast.

the reflector would be put to the side, and the tube would be wired to the ballast instead. hook up ducting and bam; instant air cooled remote ballast grow light

Yes there are many more supporters of HID than T5's, not because they are cool... but because they work better. T5's may well have the right spectrum but they'll never have the light intensity of a HID, which in my opinion is the reason for cannabis producing potent trichomes, and photosynthesising more distinctly... that and animal intervention of course. I believe trichomes work in favour of animal intervention, not against like some people believe... but first and foremost they are a barrier to the intensity of the sun's rays.
