Lighting Question - 150w vs 400w hps

So I have my grow setup almost complete. I am using an Ikea "wardrobe," the dimensions are 15" x 22" x 72". This leaves me with roughly 2.3 square feet of floor space, just enough to fit 2 bubble buckets in there snugly. I am planning on growing 2 feminized seeds at a time.

Onto my question, with money not being an issue, would it be worth it for me to upgrade from my 150w hps to a 400w hps. With my current 150w (16,000 lumens) I have about 7,000 lumens/sqft. If I upgraded to the 400w I would have 50,000 lumens, and would be well over the 10k lumens/sqft that is supposedly the cutoff point for plant growth.

I am planning on SCROGing the 2 plants, with the aid of LST, so that all of the plants budding sights will have equal access to the light coming from above.

So do you think I would increase yield by upgrading to a 400, or would it just be a waste of money?

Just an FYI, I have the 6" inline fan/filter combo for ventilation and odor control. It moves about 400cfm when on full blast, which is way overkill for my setup, so the extra heat from the bigger bulb shouldn't be an issue.

ferreal, 2 full grown plants would florish under 400w in that cab.... knock the socks offa 150!! the yield diff is wayy > the cost diff

have funn!

Thanks you two... Even tho I am still wondering if the yield difference will be significant... Does anyone have experience going from a 150 to a 400 w hps in a small box like mine? I am not familiar with the 400's rate of growth compared to the 150 in such limited space. If I was sure if it will be a noticeable difference, I would definitely go for the 400 since I have the money right now.

There will be a noticable difference. My buddy uses a 150 and I use a 400, and we share clones. Mine are always way more dense than his. The yeilds are going to be larger under a 400 and your stuff will grow and bud much, much faster too. Marijuana grows like its supposed to under a 400.

Get a conversion bulb system so you can have both MH/HPS.

Since money isn't a big issue, I recommend buying a cheap light meter somewhere, Ebay has them for like $35. I love mine, as it eliminates the guesswork. Then you can find out for sure it that 150 is good enough. I can guarantee that a 400 will work better for you, and increase your yield by quite a bit, due to the extra penetartion. It won't be too much either, as you'll see with the light meter. You will be able to adjust the LSF to wherever you want it. I've found that 14-16" works great, and is around 6500 LSF at the tops of the plants. It's all about distance from the plants, not the bulb output rating. That "53,000 lumens" that a 400 watt puts out, is only useful to know the amount of area it can cover. If you line the walls with mylar, you'll end up with some really nice plants, because the light penetration will be excellent.

sorry couldnt be botherd reading every post , but i aslo grow in a closet similar size to yours and i would say that a 400 is overkill for that space even with ventilation , i would settle for a 250watt hps
