lighting question please help

I have a somewhat large closet 3'10x9'6x7 foot tall will I need a cooltube with a 400 watt hps ? Will a 400 watt hps be enough to suport say 8 auto kush by female seeds In this area any suggestoins will be helpfull closet is connected to a air conditoined room that will stay in the high 60

400w HID is reported to cover a 4'x4' area but I think a 600 is better for that size. Not sure of heat diffs between the two, but sounds like cooling won't be an issue for you anyway. Get a 600, IMO.

I'm gonna get the cool tube anyway so I can get the light real close what do you think is the closest I could put the light? 600 is out the question cost about 50$ more and it will use more elcectric

a 400w will do better in a 3'x3'.

I think you can run a properly cooled 400 within 6in or so. But, the lower you go, the smaller the coverage. You'll have to find the happy medium that works best for you and your plants.

400w will probably work fine but i think a 600w would better fit that space. you probably don't need a cooltube for those dimensions if you are ventilating and air conditioning, and like the previous poster said, if you try to get the light really close to the plants then it won't spread as well and it definitely won't fill those dimensions.

What would you's guys call a safe distance? Like the height of the light from top of canopy on average?

12- 24 inches... I default at 24 most of the time..

I have attached a couple of charts that may help you out. I agree with m3dicin3man I don't think you would need a cool tube depending on your ventilation and cooling capabilities. I know this may spark ALOT of feedback, but the glass on the cool tube hoods will reduce the effectiveness of the light. Just sayin' its what I have read and heard.

In any case, I would suggest a 600W dimable system. That way you have some options when running your lights.
