Hi,
Looking at my first setup, I have found this:
2x HPS 400w LIGHT, SHADES & BULBS
2x HPS 400w BALLISTS (1 is built into hood)
1x HPS 600w LIGHT, SHADE & BULB
1x HPS 600w BALLIST
1x NFT system grow tray with stand etc. suitable for 6 plants.
1x 8" Exhaust Fan
1x NELSON Electronic Irrigation Controller
1x Timer
Everything is in working order and running. The bulbs have had less the 200hrs use.

Available for about $400

I am looking at soil grow at first but want to know if I would need any other lights and what sized area I can grow with these lights.

Thanks in advance for your help/insights

I'm a beginner myself but with that much lighting you could probably pull off somewhere between a 10'x10' to 14'x14', obviously the more area the less penetration. I would recomend using one of the 400w as a veg light and have a veg room and then have 1000 watts for flowering(600w+400w). Also $400 is an amazing price for all of that you would be looking at $600-$700 if you were to buy it all seperately. Again I am a beginner, so take what i say or leave it, but I actually have a similar setup. I run a 400w veg closet with a 5'x5' flower tent with one 1000w HPS light in it. You might need another exhaust fan and aluminum ducting is going to be a must. Hope that helps.

Yes on 400 watts for veg and the rest bloom. NO on lighting 10 x 10 with 1000 watts. I would light a 3x9 area with the 600 and 400, and then move the plants around to get even time under the brighter light. Even that will give you a little less than optimal lighting. But, with a 400 in there you'll be growing pretty short plants. No sense growing em tall just to end up with a bunch of larfy stuff in the bottom. If you could pop for another 600 watt light you'll see a big dif.

sounds like a AWESOME starter pack!!! 10x10 not gonna happen tho as CG stated above veg with the 400 and flower em short.. alot of short plants will fit under the lights much better than a few large plants
