Lighting timer question...

In the instructions for this light, it says not to turn on the light anyway other than the switch on the ballast. What I really want to do, and would make things a MILLION times easier is if I had a plug timer, but it say's not to. What are your thoughts on this?

Im not an electrician, but I see no difference in using a timer. Its not like the light knows and all your doing is completing or breaking the circuit of electricity at a different point. -S0uP
