Iv jst put my plants under a 400 watt hallogen light and i have got a flouresent light standing up on its end so its glowing up the stem and its showing loads of growth they look great,i have a couple of energy savers running also.av got silver paper up 2 and i put the fan on for a couple of hours on and of through out the day.aw have pics up soon.any ideas?

Halogen produces a poor amount of usuable light per watt. You're better off using compact flourescents(CFL), or HPS if you can afford that route.

Thanx man but am struggling wi hps(cnt aford it bud).i also sumtimes have the plant out in natural light as much as i can to,wouldnt that help? Im also looking for ideas on how to improve buds when they start appearing e.g what feeds are best for growing in pots? Cheers guys

You're best off switching to 42W CFL's, or several 23W ones. The 42W bulbs go for around $10 apiece, the smaller ones much cheaper. You need approx. 50W per square feet of grow space. Get the correct spectrum for each phase of growing(veg and bloom). 2700K for bloom, 6500K for veg. You can use any good hydroponics ferts in soil. I use Foxfarm Big Bloom and Tiger Bloom, though I grow hydro. Giving your plants sunlight is a good thing. For other essential knowledge, check out the GrowFAQ.

Yea, 42w bulbs.. I found for about $9... 2800 lumens. While I found a 4 pack of 26w CFLs, 1600 lumen each for $8.

6400 total lumens for $8... versus 2800 total for $9. The 42w bulbs isn't really much more intense, as it is larger. Another thing is the larger bulbs(the ballast, really) put out much less heat than an equivalent wattage amount of smaller bulbs. The hottest part of a CFL is the ballast.

50w per sq foot is a good deal of light for larger plants. You can veg seedlings to about 6" on as little as 10W/sq ft, while still maintaining 'decent' growth.
