use an eye-r-see chat client, like MiRc or Xchat on windblows 7 or XP
or Xchat BitchX on Linux
it is much better for various reasons than using that silly web based java rubbish

ok, so honestly... none of that made any sense to me. I can tell you that I'm on a laptop, not and "Eye-fone" (haha) and I THINK I have the latest Java, but I don't even know how to check that and make sure....

yeah, its broken for a lot of people. been waiting for admin to fix it for like a month (obviously the new java chat blows and is flawed if many people cant enter for the same reason)

The adventures you have gone through trying to get into chat will prove to be far more enjoyable and interesting that the actual chat itself. IOW, you aren't missing anything.

no shit i finally figured it out after hrs today just to get on there and have 2 motherfuckers monopolize the whole chat and if anyone posted it was lost in seconds 20 post back
i left came back and the same two fucks were still giving each other grow advice and i could even get a reply
i had to leave before i went off
i even had someone send me a email there and had to ask 20 times how to find the pm because them fucks would make post lost
fuck chat if i want to listen to 2 people go on about grow advice i will stick to forums where i can at least get a word in
and by the warning at top saying chat isnt for grow support i assumed it was for chatting not grow advice
