LoadedGreen - My First Grow OG Kush #18 600W HPS

Hi RUI readers,

This will document my 1st grow journal.

I have been lurking on the boards for a few months and have been absorbing info like a sponge. Thanks to all that have documented their grows and shared for all to learn, many thanks.

I would especially like to thank Cruzer101. The amount of content you have posted with your Dual Cabinet Grow, GreenHouse Build & GreenHouse Grow 2010 threads is amazing. It was a marathon effort to read them all, took the better part of a week full time But it was all clear, concise and full of information. A highly recommended read.

I am still in the planning stages atm and haven't bought any equipment. I was waiting to see if my genetics arrived in the mail. Today they finally arrived - I am very happy indeed.

Got them from Attitude seedbank, and those guys rock.

I wasn't sure if I would received the goods given they were travelling across international borders, so I went small on the order, only 3 x Reserva Privada OG Kush the #18. Also got some freebies as well...

I am planning on an ebb and flow system in hydroton under a 600w HPS cooltube for flower and 400W MH for the mums.

At this stage I am currently planning a move interstate so I won't be able to germinate for a few months, thinking mid feb. Gives me enough time to plan and get organised in my new digs. Now I just need to work out how best to store the seeds.

Ok I should have known that it would take longer than originally planned. I think the trouble was that I wanted everything ready to go before I popped the first seed as per Al B Fuct's If you plan to fail post https://www.rollitup.org/newbie-central/12071-noobs-if-you-fail-plan.htm But with my first child and a new house that’s falling apart I have been a little distracted. When your house floods every time it rains, your priorities tend to shift. I did the first thing on his list popped a bean with without every being ready and it was a mad scramble to get things up and running. But at least it forced me to act

Anyway I found a seed in my last bag so I though what the hell, lets see if it pops. And well it did Happy days. Now I have a another "little one" I have had to really get my ass into gear and have set up a little clone box. Allow me to present "Bag Seed 1.0"

Once I have got this sucker ticking along and the flower roomall decked out, I'll try and germinate the good genetics. Having said that I bud that I got the seedfrom is pretty good. Just hoping that this one is a female.

I have had a few setbacks with heat in my small cab, I went away for a few days and the grow boxgot to a sustained 36C. Suffice to saythe little girl (hopefully) suffered a fair bit but I have managed to get betterventilation and things have improved. Ihave also popped 2 autoflower seeds from Sweet Seeds the Fast Bud and SpeedDevil #2. I was thinking that I am stillaway off getting the flower room populated as I have to veg BS1.0 to get enough clones to fill the ebband flow for SoG. Therefore theautoflowers will get me into bub quickly while I wait for stock levels to build

I threw a few more beans into paper towels two days ago, today they popped and have gone into rockwool cubes. I have now added OG Kush#18, Smile, White Domina and Green Poison to the mix.

Canna nutes arrived yesterday and my 400W digital HPS should be arriving any day now. I was going to get a 600W HPS but I came across a great deal for a digital 400W ballast which I couldn’t refuse. So I have a 400W Cooltube and a digitalballast for AUD$210 + $20 postage.

Ladies are looking a little burnt today on the leaf tips and margin.
Emptied & flushed res and tray.
Swapped the res nutes to the Canna vege, was just using general purpose soluable stuff.
Added Canna to 700ppm and balanceD to pH5.5

GP, White Dom, Smile all pushing pre-leaves OGKush wasn't moving. Pulled apart rockwool cube and noticed that the tap root was sitting in an air void. Reseated the seed into the cube. Hopefully it starts sheding the seed case soon. Note to self, don't use the factory holes in rockwool cubes.

Pulled apart my cone/veg box today to improve ventilation. The box was pumping exhaust into the same room as the intake and after a while the whole room would equalise at a higher temp which, depending on the outdoor ambient temp, was anywhere from 25C-31C. Now the exhaust runs outside so the overall average temps should be lower. Plus the house was starting to stink, those autoflowers haven't shown their sex yet but they a smelling awesome already. Also moved the orientation of the CFL lights from hanging vertically to horizontal, this gives me much more head room. I also added reflective sarking to the top and back to cover the chipboard. I do have mylar sheets on order but they still haven't arrived yet, but I couldn't wait any longer and had to try and get the smell and heat under control. My money is on the mylar arriving today after i have replaced everything.

Also added a "t" piece off the pump and a few taps to make res changes easier and less messy. Now the old res water pumps into a bucket for the garden. Much better!

PS my OG Kush #18 seedling died now I only have two OG seeds left in reserve. Also my 400W digital ballast, lamp and cooltube arrived yesterday. Will upload photos soon.

pH 6.5 >~6.0-5.5 Should get a meter, too much margin for error with the drops.
Temps 25C and stable

Notes: New ventilation appears to be working! Temps have backed off about 2-3C on average, also the smell is gone for the moment.
Overall the plants are looking good. new growth is healthy. Smile seedling was potted this morning it is a little behind the White domina and green poison.
Autoflowers (Speed Devil and Fast bud) still haven't shown sex yet.
I will cut clones from the BS1.0 tonight as she is getting bushy . I need to get the clones rooted and into 12/12 to sex the mother, after all she might be a father

Took three cuttings off BS1.0 this afternoon. As soon as they root, one will go into 12/12 to determine the sex. The other two will stay in veg until sex is determined and will either become mums for awhile or compost Means I have 10-14 days to get a 12/12 box running.

Not much to report, everthing is ticking along nicely, pH generally rises after a few days to 6.5 which I correct to 5.5. I've been topping off with pH balanced water and H2O2. Will do res change and flush tonight. Temps have been stable 23-26C with a 3-5C drop overnight. Just waiting for the clone to root and the autos to start flowering. I have a few days off over the xmas - new year break. I hope to get the flower cupboard built and the 400W HPS set up. My mylar still hasn't arrived, the post office is looking for the package but I am not that hopeful But at least they didn't lose the the HPS and digital ballast . My little clone/veg box is getting full I might need to heavily prune the BS1.0 mum and take some more clones to thin her out, she is getting too big for the space.

Oh forgot to mention I ordered some 135mm square pots to make more efficient use of the flood tray and maximise root space. Hopefully they arrive soon

20/12/2011 Evening

Things are getting tight in my veg box. I will have to seriously cut back the bag seed mum. The seedlings are just too far from the CFLs and are starting to stretch. Once the clones have rooted I might throw the mum in the flower box with the autos - Now I just have to build the flower room

Flushed the res last night and changed nutes
added 25L tap water 400 ppm pH 8.0
added nutes to 1000ppm - so 600ppm effective, still a little low but I am feeding to the youngest plants so I don't burn them.
Corrected pH to ~5.5-6.0
added H2O2
Temp 23C
RH 68%


Oh and the lights look high as I had to raise them for the photo, i actually let the left side hang down as much as possible to closer to the seedlings. I will have to try and get the ligts lower for them somehow!

RH75% (its high but ambient is 70%) Unusually high as my climate is arid, but hey wierd weather we've been having!!! Might try to increase the airflow to drop it a bit!

Clones still haven't rooted yet, I should really have them on a heat mat! Tonight will be day six for the clones.

4/2/2012 - Put plants under 400W HPS today
5/2/2012 - Cut clones 1 x White domina 2 x Smile and 6 Green Poison

The veg cabinet is too hot now its in the same room as the HPS lamp, temps at 29.5C. I'll have to have direct air intake to the veg cabinet.

The flower area is still on 16-8 until I can get the veg area cooler for the clones. Fast bud is filling out well. Pictures soon

90% of the clones are pushing roots so I can flip the HPS on to 12/12 soon.
I have managed to get fresh air intake to the veg/clone box and temps are stable at 28C. Still a little high but what are you going to do when ambient is 27C short of getting a A/C unit?

Well I flipped the HPS to 12/12 today and moved the light cycle to nightime to keeps the temps low. So thats 3 x Bag Seed, 1 x Green Poison, 1 x White domina and 1 X Smile now in flower as well as the two autos which are 5-6 weeks in. Not long now until homegrown bud!!!!
