LST aka WTF am I doing?

Hi all, this is my first grow and I’m trying LST solo without topping before I try topping on my next plant. G14 auto just hit three weeks post seedling appearing above the ground.

Tied the main stem to the side 2 days ago with a plant tie attached to the side of the pot-you can see now the top has poked back up towards the light.

My n00b question: do I basically just wait until the top grows a little more and then pull that down as well, following the rim of the pot in a sort of spiral pattern?

Should the main stem be even more horizontal than it is?

Thanks in advance

You probably don’t want to hear this. But topping will better achieve what you’re trying to do. Even with LST the main branch continues to grow larger than the rest.

For what you have now you need to tie the main branch down low the opposite way you’re pulling down the top. It should end up as close to 90 degrees as possible.

What's wrong with LST alone?

Thanks for the feedback-I’m not sure what you’re referring to when you mean the main branch? Any chance you could label or describe what you’re talking about?

When I grow bushes I don't TOP, or FIM. Some plants have a stronger tendency to remain apical dominant. Pinching the stems and pulling the tops back down diffuses the dominance and redirects the hormones. May take a few times, but everything eventually catches up.
If you have a plant that refuses to be broken then topping would be appropriate.

First grow. Why don’t you skip all the fancy tricks and see if you can get to the finish line. Plenty of time to learn topping, super cropping and the rest.
I have very limited light space-30 inches max in between the LED and the container-and was worried about light burn

What do you plan to do when the plant doubles in height in flower?

Buddy of mine had told me with LST I should be able to keep it low enough-is he talking out of his hat? Due to space restrictions my DIY tent it only about 48 inches high.

Just remeasured and I have about 3 feet in between the pot right now and the light-would topping help with reducing the growth?

You said you had 30 inches between the pot and light. 3 feet is a big difference. You're going to have to keep the plants very low. If you plan for 12 inch plants and expect them to double in size to 24 inches total that only leaves you with 12 left between the canopy and light. That's cutting it close.

Apologies. 30 inches between plant and light, 36 inches between pot and light. Plant is about 6 inches tall. Appreciate all the advice!

nothing really just you will have one head overpowered. but lst only will work soon rest of the branches will start growing soo then you will have one going on the rim next one diagonally and soo on. with no toping you will have main top and that one will be the fattest.

Here’s what I do that seems easy. Wait for it to get about 5 or 6 nodes than top it. Let the two new tops grow out a few inches, then tie those two new tops down like I did with the plant on the left. I’ll do it to the one on the right when the two new tops grow a little more. That kind of evens the canopy and helps with the final height.

I usually try and keep the main a bit lower than the rest. I can't see if you can actually do that yet though.
