Lumatek's advert reads :-

Lumatek's high-par output lamps are designed by the world's leading HID lamp engineers. These lamps provide exceptional performance on both magnetic and electronic ballasts. 100% European engineered and manufactured Lumatek's high-par output lamps deliver an optimized spectrum and high level of Photosynthetic Active Radiation to promote healthy plant growth. These lamps have strengthened seals and a reinforced arc frame to ensure that they will provide long lasting performance with stable lumen output.
Initial Luminous Flux (lm): 60,000

PAR (umol/s): 713
Photo Flux (phyto-lm)

Sylvania's advert reads :-

The Sylvania Grolux HPS bulb was designed specifically for greenhouse supplementary lighting. It has increased blue light and the highest PAR rating. This is the hottest bulb right now and is consistently out-performing the Hortilux. The Sylvania Grolux Features:
•Extreme high light output
•Improved quality of light : increased red and blue light output
•10% higher photosynthesis flux when compared to standard HPS 'super' bulbs
•High PAR radiation
•Lumens: 60,000
•color temp: 2050 K

I was/am contemplating using a 400w Dual Arc bulb..however I can only find 1000w versions..

Anyhow... I've since heard of High-Par HPS lamps, and rumours of new better ones soon to be available...

My question's are:-

"Has anyone used either of the 2 lamps above?"

"How do they compare to standard HPS?"

"Which one offers a higher PAR out-put?"

"Is there a better High-PAR out there (400w)?

Any and all light shone on this would be greatly received (no pun intended) :) Many thanks - STELTHY :leaf:

I also found this one... again which is better, and offers a higher PAR ?? etc..

Osram 400w Plantastar hps bulb

OsramPlantaStar400WLeuchtmittel.jpg

Osram's advert reads :-

This Osram bulb can be used for growth and bloom. the light is mostly red/yellow spectrum, needed for the flowering stage but it also has 30% more of the blue spectrum (for the vegetative stage).
Works only with 400W HPS ballast and E 40 socket.
This bulb has 55000 lumens

Iam sure there are probably a few more 'High-Par' bulbs out there, so whats the best bulb, that offers the Highest Par out-put etc? - STELTHY :leaf:

I get a lot of returns on lumatek bulbs.

It could be because people use them on "superlumens" mode with their lumatek ballasts.
But lumatek bulbs and sometimes CAP Maxlume/digilux bulbs are the only ones I get complaints about

Hmm... So you don't recommend Lumateks lamps?!! Is it not a good idea to flick the boost button on a Lumatek ballast, with the Lumatek PAR boost lamps? will it blow the bulb or just shorten its life? Do you know of the best HPS lamp, with the most extra PAR? - STELTHY :leaf:

im about to start 12/12 this weekend using a 400 sylvania dual, as described, all i know is i wanted hps, ill worry about bulbs later, whatever i use is gonna be better than cfl, and i couldnt afford the led i wanted, but its an option later :)

i use a 1oooWatt hortilux eye hps for flower too, did a side by side also, blew the other lamp outta the watter.... hahaha get it..

EYE vote for EYE also. I pay 92 for them out the door. The few dollars difference is worth the result.

PAR values from different bulbs on different ballasts. Check this out.

I've also heard a lot of bitching about Lumatek gear. This is second hand 'cuz I've never used any of their stuff, so take it FWIW.

I've used Sylvania bulbs back in the day. They're fine, but nothing to write home about. I've got an old one in my rafters for use as a backup just in case I ever need it.
That said there's only one bulb I use now days... the EYE Hortilux. Everything else is second best.

Ive just used a lumatek 600w for 6 month on 12/12 dnt use the boost thing though. the bulb itself looks nearly new.u knw the white coating inside hasnt really changed colour much.but just put in a new style sylvania gro lux today and flipped so ill see what happens in next few months.and keep posting.
