How far away were the t5's and are they t5-HO or are they just 23w t5's?
And how far away did you keep them?

11g off two plants is really bad even if you were using pink and purple lights.

If this is your first grow, you did fine.

My first grow was totally ghetto and I got lucky with the 8th I harvested off the one plant I grew, but that was a long time ago. Each successive grow benefits from the lessons learned on all previous grows. Each harvest will reflect your ever increasing experience.

Your yields will increase if you keep trying.

Good luck and good growing.

It's not the color that's responsible (ok, maybe a little), it's clearly the lumen output. I tried to flower a plant some time ago just with fluros, thought I'd save on the electricity bill... BIG mistake. Fluros aren't nearly as good for flowering as HID bulbs.

If you can't find HID bulbs (I'm sure you can, the thing that's hard to find is a ballast), go with halogen bulbs. They may not have the perfect spectrum, but they're strong (150w - 2830 lum), don't need a ballast and will offer decent results (over 50g dry on any plant).

I don't live on that side of the planet, so I don't know what you got in your home depot, but here's a link:

Also wanted to say, it may not just be the lights that caused a low yeald. Did you have a good air circulation, large enough pot, good nutes, right temps and humidity, good pH? Not saying that you don't know about these, just that it's best to pinpoint the problem so you don't have to repeat it.

halogen over CFL or T5? i've never heard that - in fact, i've only heard the opposite. are you sure about halogen lights? all the literature says to stay away from them due to high heat and very little results...

pots i used 3 gal
2..6 inch fans
had a few nights in the mid to high 60 .. before i moved them out of a closet into and 6x3x2 metal cabinet
only got to about 75-80 with the lights on...and i monitored the ph at every water iwth a lumen/moister/ph tester i got at lowes...
i used foxfarm tiger bloom and the veg stuff as nutes nothing else...

I know that's what everybody says. Still, I tried them, they don't heat up worse than a 150w HPS. I think people get these bulbs confused. There's 2 types of halogen bulbs, the ones I liked and those really thin bulbs for construction site or gigant bilboard lights. Like this:

http://www.made-in-china.com/showroom/smallong/product-detailUExQglmTpJnY/China-Halogen-Floodlight-Lamp-ZY-500-500W-.html

These produce a lot of light (10000lum). Sadlythey're so hot, you could cook pancakes with them.
I don't say halogen bulbs are ideal for this, but they're certainly better than fluros. Again, just my experience.

Well, that looks like a nice setup. I'd have to say, it's kinda clear that the lights wern't strong enough. More lumen, more buds, that's what I always heard.

i was looking at lowes.com and saw a 400 watt hps bulb for 20 bucks...says for indoor use and indoor socket...do you think that mean i could use it in say maybe a lamp...but i would need a ballast to get all 400w correct?...or would i need the whole deal?

To run a mh or hps bulb you need the correct ballast....... you cant screw a 400w + bulb into a 110v outlet lol!!!!! read up a lil dude. Just a tip my first grow i used 50 4 ft 4 bulb fluros for veg and flower buds were loose scragly bastards with hardly a high ..... i was very dissapointed ... now using a400w mh and very impressed the plant grew so fast it became rootbound in a 2 gallon tub in 25 days !!!!!!!!!! almost died but i transplanted.. didnt grow for a week but now is back on track! whew!~!
