Its a South African slang term for shit weed......
Back in the day, Majat / Majad was South African term we used to describe the absolute worst dry dust cannabis available.
here is a piece from a South African dictionary...
1956 A. La Guma in New Age 4 Oct. Ingenious methods have been discovered to secrete tiny things which make life a little more tolerable. Even dagga, known as ‘majat’ in prison slang, finds its way into the cells.
1969 Drum Aug. Between R75 and R100 is paid per bag, depending on the quality and particular strain of the plant. The first grade is called ‘Rooipoortjie’, second grade is ‘Jong Dagga’ or ‘Pieper’ and the third grade is called ‘Majat’ in the Cape.

Heard it called dagga I know of Swazi and Durban Malawi roibart I proly butchering the spelling on that one but majat is one I've never heard of though ye learn something every day is this Africaans slang or ?

I think Majat is a Cape Malay term which may have originally come from Urdu, which definitely found its way into the Afrikaans language, Afrikaans is based on High Dutch but incorporates all our other South African languages into it. So its nowadays like a kitchen Dutch. Its is honestly the most descriptive language on this planet and there is not another launuage on this planet that uses swear words so effectively. If someone is swearing in Afrikaans even if you don't know the language you will know those are swear words.
Majat meaning = Cannabis of low quality
Majat (uncountable) (South Africa) Cannabis of low quality with too many sticks and seeds. (South Africa, by extension) Any other product or service that is of inferior quality.

Thanks for clearing that up bud I've worked with quite a few south Africans over the years and one of my growing mentors was from outside cape town a Boer and an actual farmer grew everything from weed to south African squashes and also dream herb etc yeah it's definitely a descriptive one like you say it's a very versatile one is Afrikaans

Namibia is where these seeds were collected. With it being low quality my guess is the habitat its grown and could possibly pheno hunt or cross it with something here.

Majat is a term we used to describe shit weed, it was not a term to describe a strain of weed. If any strain was shit, DP, Swazi, Rooi baard, Malawi, Congo........ we would call it Majat.
I would try get those seeds anyway as you never know what's in them, and they can only become Majat after the grow of a poor Strain, poor grow or poor cure. Cannabis never starts out as majat, it only ends up as majat.

awesome, that was kinda my thought. I was thinking harsh grow conditions = harsh weed. I will try to get as many as I can.

Ah i see so it's just used as a catch all term for bud that's lacking regardless of origin here in Scotland where I'm at we just call it pish if it's no upto scratch lol alot of our slang is actually pidgin norse in origin still to this day on the west coast things like wean hoose hame all come from that

Yes having worked with many Scots it has the same connotation as when you Scotts say its pish, the only difference is when we use the term majat we are directly referencing the quality of a strain of cannabis, you lot use pish to describe anything that's substandard from beer to underpants.
