Soooo I know it's been done so many times home made presses yeah yeah however I was curious what heat plates do you guys think would be cool in this press I'm "converting". It's a 12 ton carver press I picked up and plan on rebuilding the pump. I know it's overkill but it looks cool and has a guage. I'm thinking about making a shelf for the electronics to mount above it. Just have to source more acme thread nuts.

I'm tempted to buy 1in thick aluminium plate and make a custom plate that matches the carver press and bolt it in. I've never sourced heating elements or power supply's

Thinking about buying these and just taking the plates out of the cage and mounting them in

5.5 x 7in plate

I tried it with the current plates I have I'd just prefer more working room and a more clean look if turn them side ways though and have the wires go straight out the back instead of the sides to avoid the adjustment screws

Made some progress. Decided for now to use the heat plates I already have. Turned a new "top post" out of some aluminum because the old one was seized up. Made a shelf to hold the controller too. I currently have the pump completely torn apart stripping the paint and putting in new seals. I wasn't going to paint it but now I think I'm going to. Want to do purple and black but my girlfriend thinks I'm nuts

I always thought the rustic aged looking diy presses looked awesome. Painting it would be cool and fun too though just thought Id say. Would love to see a few presses of rosin with that!

Love the light mounted on it if thats what that it. Having light right between the plates is a luxury. I always use my phone flashlight as theres no easy other way or at least that Ive dedicated to figure out.

I guess havent tried looking up light weight mountable lights.

Made some progress tonight got the pump rebuilt and started mocking everything up

Did a quick little clean up on the gauge cover. The plan is to start painting today. I also caved and got some 4x7 plates I think/hope I can make fit that way I can sell my current smaller plates abd h frame press. I know dabpress is "cheaper" but at the end of the day as long as it's the right temp and pressure what's the difference. I had a dabpress before and liked it

After much thought and talking with the low temp guys. I ended up ordering their controller and will modify my plates to take their elements. Maybe eventually I'll make more custom plates but for now it's a good alternative. The black anodized paint turned out terrible so I may respray it too and the the green parts. Once my table comes in for it I'll be setting everything up and doing some rest runs

So I had some picture issues but thanks to @curious2garden for helping me get that squared away. So at this point I drilled out the plates I already had to fit low temps controller and rods. Wasn't too bad and I'm digging the results. Now I'm just working on insulating them a bit better. I have to make a mount for my timer and controller. Hopefully today I can get it completely together and mocked up fully. I'm so ready to paint the green black askwd low temp if they had a bigger sticker too haha
