Making hash / cannabis oil

hi there everyone,

had some plant matter left over after harvest...( male plants, stems, leaves etc..)

decided to make cannabis oil out of it.

mixed all the plant material with the afore mentioned alcohol.. soaked, stirred agitated etc... strained with a flour baking type strainer , then filtered all mater out again using paper coffee filters.

was left with with green coloured alcohol..
proceeded to evaporate off all the alcohol (well i hope all) by putting the liquid in a sauce pan and placing into another saucepan of boiling water...(ie no direct heat...)

this took ages!!!

i wasnt left with oil like i thought but when it was all evaporated off.. i was left with a sticky yellowy brown sludge

very grainy and sedimenty....and very very sticky and messy..

is this shit ok to smoke?????

i tried to smoke it but it was seriously hard going ...very very strange smoke...

was the isoproply alcohol (isopropanol as used in the electronics industry for cleaning pcb's and as a solder flux..) ok to use for this????

am i going to kill myself with some toxic smoke????

why was i left with a sticky bitty sludgy hash type substance and not oil???

people please advise!!!!!!!

oh so if you see it you can tell if its alright to smoke...

and you can also tell if its ok to make sludge with isopropanol...when u see a pic???

look. to keep yous all happy i'll take loads of pictures in the morning and post them tomorrow nite!!!

anyway- in the mean time, does anyone on here actually know anything bout what im talking about...and does anyone on here actually read text. as opposed to- if there's no pictures i dont understand .... what with me being all of 5 years of age!!!!

It's okay to use isopro alcohol but most prefer 180 strength alcohol (think its everclear). Just for the reason you mentioned the taste when burned. But I have heard of people using lighter fluid to do this too.

Do a goggle search for honey oil and find a pic. See if its close to your sludge.

i think there's some chemistry experiments on erowid. i believe butaine is most commonly used for cannibus extraction.

if you were left with a sludge, (I am gona take a stab here) I bet you did not filter it good enough. I am compairing it to oil. the finer the filter used on oil, the cleaner it gets. like I said though, just a stab. take it a face value if you want.

I think Butane like was said before is the best, it completely evaporates as it is a gas, the alchohol is a liquid so I would bet that you are going to be smoking alot of "other" things you may not want to. Just my expierience.

i actually got butane today..(lighter refill) and tried to purify my sludge a bit more...

what happened was- the sludge froze and went rock hard... and i had to go through the whole process of heating it again to get it all soft n squidgy....

tawni- butane is also a liquid, just at lower temps.... i think butane starts to boil off at about 6 degrees centigrade
isopropanol (isoproyl alcohol) starts to boil off at about 20 degrees centigrade.....

anyway- look at pics, comment and advise.

didnt get a chance to up load pics of plants as they were in their dark phase and didnt want to disturb them... i have the lights on from 20 00 to 08 00 to save on lecy but im working nights this month so its a bit awkward... : )

oh and another thing tawni.... seeing as butane starts to boil off at 6 deg c... its kinda hard to work with it... u have the shit sprayed into a bowl or whatever and its already boiling....

thats why i chose isopropanol... u can use, it mix it, filter it...etc then gently heat it and al the alcohol should disappear.

plain and simple- i can get the alcohol form work free......
bubble bags are kinda on the pricey side for a couple of sacs u know....

alcohol evaporates 100 percent, becoming a gas, there wont be alcohol left just added shit

hey u only spose to rinse the iso thru the weed let it soak for no longer than 30 secs if u let it soak any longer or u mash up all the weed u end up with all the oils and chlorophyl from the plant which u dont want u only want the thc

Man my friend has this homemade pipe bomb lookin thing that makes THC oil with butane he compresses the butane in the pipe that is airtight shakes it for a while then releases it with a release valve onto a plate and voila theres the oil... good smoke too

i did the same method as phox last night using nothing but males, got a brown sludge crap too, made a homemade vapouriser similar to A L bfucts plans using a soldering iron.

kinda got me stoned, but more of an airy head high though, haha though that may have been left over shit on the soldering iron, so i will DEFINETLY be buyin a brand new one today hahaha ewwwwwwww

Sounds like you did well. Approach cautiously...could sneak up on you....if you havent found out already. Dry and powder the green matter...soak in the iso...strain through 3ltr juice bottle, bottom cut off, packed tight with dacron toy stufffing half way. This will eliminate the graining in the finished product. Remember that like good cheese and bourbon... good oil takes time. Enjoy
