Making My Own Hemp Paper

Ok so I have a few stalks that have been forgotten about, and I will have about 5 more in the near future. SO instead of just throwing them in a fire I have decided to try out making my own hemp paper. From what I've read it doesn't seem to difficult.

Has anyone had luck doing this? is their any tips you can give?

Yes I understand this may be a waste of time and resources but tell me what's better than keeping your grow journal on your own sheets of hemp paper! EXACTLY!

I will be starting the process in a couple of weeks. I was also curious about one thing.

It's mentioned you soak your stalks over night to help make them easier to blend. So do I need to go through the process of drying my stalk after harvest then re soaking it or can I get away with just soakin it over night and then CHOP CHOP?!

haha yea I see that. I guess it's not as common as one would think. The process seems easy enough Im just waiting untill I have enough stalks to go through the process.

This is most likely the process I will follow unless my searching finds a better recipe.

First cut the stalks into 1/2 chunks (This may be time consuming but I figure just small pieces will work)

Soak the hemp for 12 to 24 hours in water.

Put the hemp on low heat and add some soda ash. Cook the hemp for about 8 hours. The hemp should still feel tough.

Put the hemp into a blender for about 2 minutes until it turns fluffy or soft. For a different texture of paper, try adding shredded newspaper or similar soft paper to the mixture. You can also increase or decrease the amount of time you use to blend the materials. You can also choose to add dyes to the mixture.

Pour the hemp substance (known as slurry) into a shallow pan.

Scoop your deckle into the bottom of the pan and lift straight up very slowly. Once the deckle is free from the mixture, allow any excess water to drip off before moving to Step 7.

Flip the deckle paper side down onto a clean towel or newspaper. The paper should come off onto the towel.

Place another towel on top of the paper. Roll over the towels and paper with a rolling pin to squeeze out any excess moisture.

When paper is almost dry, iron it using the hottest setting on your iron. This will help finish the drying process and flatten it at the same time.

If you have excess slurry, you can put it in a plastic bag and freeze it.

hmmm thats interesting, I'd like to see some more info on this topic, I'm about to start my grow and this is an awesome way of dealing with waste product as well as being "green" (pun intended). I also totally dig the idea of recording the grow on hemp paper that is fantastic!!! GL and post back when you make the paper!!! I'm Subbed

I know this sounds retarded, but I have a big stalk that a pulled all the bark off amd smoothed it down, and carved down a bit into my own wand and when I am stoned and want to make my wife laugh, I might walk by and wave it at her and cast a stoney spell,"chronicus pufftomunl and walk away. I know its retarded, but thats kind of the point.
