Making my own nutes to use with Canna Coco?

Hey hey people!

I am currently growing using canna coco as well as their line of nutrients, (A+B, cannazym, rhizo). I've become VERY interested in preparing my own nutrient solution w/ mineral salts and am beginning to completely understand the concept as they relate to pure hydro.

BUT, I know that canna coco holds on to certain things like potassium, as well as behaves differently as a result.

Given all these facts, has anyone tailored a nutrient profile/schedule for DIY mineral salt nutes to be used with canna coco? Or am I better off just ditching the coco and setting up a hydroton/hydro ebb/flow thing instead? The amount of money I'll save NOT using canna nutes will pretty much allow me to continue growing :)

PS, if this isn't the right subforum, could a mod kindly relocate it?

Thanks peeps!

shameless bump.. I'm super curious!

I guess I have something to add, anyways...

here Lucas estimates the NPKMg ppm levels for a 5.7mL/gal feeding and a 8.0mL/gal feeding of canna coco A+B

canna coco 5.7a plus 5.7b (this is their baseline 3ml per liter formula), the highest dosage they recommend is 14ml/gal of canna coco A plus 14 of B). This mix (5.7ml/gal) is less than 1/3 strength of GH Flora Nova Bloom @8ml per gallon on the P, K and Mg..
N - 87
P - 30
K - 43
Mg - 17

canna coco 8/a and 8/b
121 - N
42 - P
60 - K
24 - Mg

I use Cannazym in conjunction (anywhere from 4 to 8 mL/gal), which adds a bit of P and K to the overall mix at (0-2-1), so those levels could be assumed to be higher in the examples posted above.

Has anyone tried this before? I'd love to mimic the canna nutes feeding for canna coco but I'd love a little feedback before I dive in.

I looked up coco A+B and cannazym and they basically contain zero microelements besides a bit of Molybdenum and the tiniest bit of Copper.. hence the directions to use tap-water on the back.

I'd rather use R/O and make my micros, but all the macro elements are so low compared to other profiles, should I keep the micros that low as well?

yikes !! 8-)

Gee man, I don't know why you have to make it so hard, I use a cheap agricultural hydroponic feed, with all the main nutrients and a smattering of micros included. Costs less than $3 for half a kilo and you use 3 5ml scoops per 5l. So, its cheap as shit. I'm sure you could find an equivalent. As long as your pH is within range, I don't think you need to make any special arangements for coco. I have honestly never been able to have so little problems when growing in soil.

i thought there was something having to do with canna coco holding on to potassium a bit more than other brands, so different nutrient profiles are needed as opposed to using hydro profiles. Thats why ive gotta make it "so hard"! maybe im wrong tho!

thanks for the link mike, i'll check it out

I don't expect it to hold on to any or much more than any other coco... or if so , that it would have even less issues than plain old cheap agricultural coco.
I use Starke Ayres' bricks... and appart from a plant that got damaged in the cotolydon stage (I was impatient, after a bit of a grow hiatus), I can't see any nute deficiencies or problems.
