I plan on isolating a male and female to build up seed stock my question is do i need as much light for this as i need to bud plants or can i get away with just a couple of cfl's? does it take a full flowering period to end up with good seeds?

grow the plant like regular. female away from males etc......
grow the male where it cannot polinate the females in your room. when the males pollen sacs open, rub the tip of a feather in it and tickle a small bud on a low branch to pollinate just that single bud.
put some tape on the stems of the ones you pollinate to keep track of them.

thanks for the response. this is okay to do in the flowering room with the other females? Will the plant i pollinate still produce decent buds along with the seeds

Ive been creating my own x breeds for 8 years and i only used fluros to do it,my advice would be to give the seeded plants just as much care, light and attention as you would a plant thats about to give you some bud lol.

I have now invested in a decent hps lighting kit and i have a thread where i am using one of my own breeds that i have finally stabilized(i think)to make some new seeds using a mainly indica triploid male and female,i also have a mainly sativa male and female if you want to have a look at that i will be including pics all the way to the end.

I will only be fertilizing one branch on each female as this will give me plenty of seeds to start my new batch which i will then select the best from and begin to crossbreed these with hashberry.

I may also use the sativa male to fert the indica female and vice versa also only one branch each so theres still some good smoke for me,all depends on how big they look as i can always store the pollen for later use as i only have a small setup.

Hope this is of help or interest to you:blsmoke:

If you dont have seperate grow rooms then i would recommend the bag method only.
This is where you collect pollen in a small clear plastic food bag and then put the bag over the stem you want to fertilize and tie it of and give it a shake and leave it for a day or two(i use clear food bags as the plants still get light then, but some people prefer brown paper bags dunno why though).
Then just snip the top off the bag and use a water mister liberally to negate the pollen thats left in the bag and on the stem that youve pollinated and remove the bag and wait for your new seeds, the pot stem that you have used will still be smokable after youve removed the seeds but it will not be as strong as sensi:blsmoke:

I like my way of pollinating better, what you do is let your female get nice and big and just like Marcus said grow the male in a separate area until the sacs start to open. But have the male sitting on some plastic sheeting or even newspaper works and dump it into a plastic bag. Put the bag on the branch that you want pollinated and shake it around abit. let is sit on there for a about one or two days and do it again. After that you will have one branch of seeds and very little hassle. Enjoy your harvesting, they always taste better when you create and grow your own.

nat that info was helpful and interesting. I want to try a few strains and seeds are expensive and a hassle to have shipped here I figured i buy a few packs here and there but it would be nice to have seedstock so i wouldnt have to be so careful and make sure to keep a few in case i want to grow that strain again. anyways thanks for the help assuming i end up with a male i will be doing this using the bag method you described.
