Massive Clone!!!

Well I needed to take some height off my plant..Should have done it earlier, and didnt want to throw the top beast away..So I made a clone..

I've tried cloning once using clonex gel and soil, and all 4 made it..It took a while but they started to grow..I just pulled 5 clones from 2 plants 3 days ago, they look pretty sad, but they'll come around. i used rapid rooter bark plugs for those..

Now for the monster I used the plug, and soil. I want her to make it!!! Its an awesome strain. So what do you think her chances are??

yeah I dont think she's gonna make it..Just got back from band practice and she's totally wilted..I got a stick holding her up now...Hopefully in a couple of days I'll see her sprout back up.

is it from the main stalk?

o yeah..i wanted to top...should've done it earlier. Figured I'd try to make a clone out it.

I hope she roots!! She looks terribly sad right now..Might be too much to ask out of it.

i haven't had any success with main stalk clones... have used clonex, root n grow, and shultz takeroot in a hothouse setup... besides stalks, i have about a 98% success with shoots ... good luck i hope it is just me having trouble with stalk cloning... what strain?

Yes you can root that, I have rooted many many top cuts, the biggest thing is keeping it in a humidity dome!!!!!

Theres a Lot of Leaf surface area on top cuts, so you need to slow down/stop transpiration. Put in in a tray with a dome and she will perk up and root within a week or 2.

The biggest problem with failed clones is not enough humidity to slow transpiration, the clones keep releasing moisture then they wilt. If you put in in a dome she will stand tall and strong till she roots.

My top stems root all the time.. as a matter of fact they usually root as fast or faster. It'll be fine... get the humidty dome... thats the problem.

Did you use rooting gel? When using top cuts the time you cut till the time the cutting is dipped in water or gel is Critical. You want as little air exposure to the cut as possible because tops are usually hollow. If you get an air bubble in there it probably wont root.

I have never used a heating pad, I always use new/clean black trays with the tall humidity domes. Is the dome for the hothouse vented? I like the Mondi domes with the 2 little adjustable vents.

Yeah I have never used a heating pad, with my 2 current strains clones have been rooting %100. I have rooted clones on my bedroom floor under the roof light before, but since I have been putting them in my veg closet, about 3-4 feet away from a 250w HPS they have rooted 100%... I threw away 50 healthy clones a few weeks ago because I had no more space to flower them, and no one wanted them. It is nice being able to pick all the big strong healthy ones from the lot though.

I used clonex rooting gel, and it had very little air exposure..I kept it in water. I wont be bummed if it doesnt make it..the stalk was mad thick

She is massive, I would have removed all the lower branches, or just took the top 4-6 inches. Iv never root right in soil, with or without plugs, always rockwool cubes in domes.

the HOT HOUSE ran me 40.00 USA dollars, it comes with a VENTED dome... come to think of it it is action right now (PIC 1). it also came with with some clonex. i used peat pucks the firstime with great success, this time i'm trying something different, with plain soil. but you can use rockwool or rapid rooters.

OH YEAH!! when the plastic finallly wears out i will be using a 10 gallon aquarium, with that heat mat.

I think it depends a lot on how much of the top you chopped. The larger the top, the more root it will require to get enough nourishment. The dome is mandatory, for sure! If you only took the top and a couple leaves back, it will probably be okay in about a week. Keep us informed. Good luck.
